Naperville residents fought the installation of these meters for a long time for various reasons.

Thank God for the "BIG BAD GOVERNMENT" limiting the MONOPOLY to only that amount. The MONOPOLY wanted you to pay upwards of $50/ month should you not permit the installation of smart meters. Or, you can just go without electricity. g

Actually, the Gvt. should not be able to tell the electric company what they can charge for the right to not have a smart meter.
If it costs 50 bucks to have your meter read, then so be it.
But anything for the masses to feel "protected"

I am pretty sure they installed a bunch of them when they installed the sewers out South here. I read something somewhere a while back. I am a little fuzzy about the details. Can smart meters actually monitor and ADJUST your usage. Can they idle back some of your A/C usage, Can it make your fridge not cycle as often during the day? I swear I read something about new technology on the horizon that would allow for things like that to avoid brownouts and such during peak daytime hours. Yes they can, They can control what you use! yea real nice huh..........

I think their ability to throttle your usage depend on what type of appliances you have and what type of thermostat you use..Not saying that won't be coming next.......

smart meters can interact with any smart device you are running in your home. refrigerators, furnaces, washer, dryers, televisions and various other appliances are some that will communicate with a smart meter. also Comed will be able to turn off your power from their office for failure to pay your bill, monitor your usage and what appliances are using the most electricity.

They have had them in Dallas for 30 some years. Never heard of a problem. They do eliminate having to have meter reader walking around. But the lucky ones just drove down the front street or alley and gathered up the same info as the walking readers did.

I'm thinking we have all had a smart meter in our house for a couple of years now, maybe longer. American Water swapped out the old hard wired meters for the new radio transmitter type. Even though it may not have the supposed control the electrical meter has the concept is the same, easier data collection for billing. And if for some reason ComEd want to limit my electricity I'll just fire up the generator and inverter.........
