Actually, the Gvt. should not be able to tell the electric company what they can charge for the right to not have a smart meter. If it costs 50 bucks to have your meter read, then so be it. But anything for the masses to feel "protected" Sniper, You also believe Corporations should have the ability to build Nuclear Reactors without any type of inspections or regulations as well, correct? A lover of the cost of the cleanup the "TAXPAYES" paid for Love Canal. After all Unregulated, Non-Taxed, Corporations and Businesses are all concerned about OUR best interest , right? Yep, you're a "Company Man" bought and paid for. g

I am pretty sure they installed a bunch of them when they installed the sewers out South here. I read something somewhere a while back. I am a little fuzzy about the details. Can smart meters actually monitor and ADJUST your usage. Can they idle back some of your A/C usage, Can it make your fridge not cycle as often during the day? I swear I read something about new technology on the horizon that would allow for things like that to avoid brownouts and such during peak daytime hours. Only if your Appliances have the ability to communicate. Most don't. The biggest advantage to the supplier is the ability to report the bill without having to send a meter reader.

Comparing the installation of a smart meter to save labor costs to an unregulated Nuclear facility or the Love Canal is right up your alley and comprehension level. I always thought Democrats were only ignorant on the national level...............

Do you mean Goverment Regulations may actually be benefical to citizens? And wouldn't Government Regulations require "Gubment" employees to make certain the regulations are being followed.? Wouldn't the cost of those "Gubment" employees have to be paid for with out tax money? Where will it end Sniper? g g

I bumped into my water meter reader last summer. He just walked up to what looked like and old phone box on the wall and got out an electrical devise. Meter was read. This is nice as i would have HAD to be home 'cause the meter is in the basement.

Dog, was it a smart meter or just an electronic meter, there is a difference. Never had time to pay that much attention to it. All I remember was the word "demand" on it. How can I tell the difference?
