i watched a show on the history channel about hell. if i am hearing them correctly, that if you sin ,confess, believe in Christ and be saved, then on a flip side of this show says you will be judged by god and would be sent to hell for your sins. if this is the case, then why go to church to confess if you are going to hell when you die to pay for your sins for eternity. i thought if you confess your sins and believed in christ your soul would be saved from going to hell.
religion to me is very confusing, and why i just believe there is a god and do not go to church. cause i do not understand any religion.
you got one saying confess your sins and ask god for forgiveness and ask christ to come into your heart, then your soul is saved from going to hell. then you got another saying that when you sin, confess for forgiveness when you die, you will be judged by god for your sins and casted into the flames of hell for punishment.
i just keep telling myself that i am going to hell no matter what i do to try to save myself.
guessing when you sin you don't get a 2nd chance cause it goes against gods decree.

Twista I was raised catholic. I was taught to go to confession, confess my sins, do some hail Marys and our fathers and God will forgive. So lets say lil johnny done killed someone, when he pulled the trigger he knew he was committing a sin. I do not think people can really go around knowingly sinning, tell God what they did, as if he didn't already know, pray and go to heaven. NO NO NO. All God ask from you is to spread his word, live honest, be kind, help your fellow man and do not sin. Now don't worry if you do unknowingly or accidentally sin God will forgive you if you ask him to. But I don't think people can purposely sin whenever and pray to forgive and it will be. God is no fool and I'm sure can't be played as one.

Twista I think you should read the bible and form your own opinions rather than have another person tell you how to interpret things ; )

rob the only problem with your statement is that the bible is an interpretation of someone else's beliefs. twista would have to study all religions then make his mind up who's interpretation he believes.

I am in the process of doing this and I can tell you Buddhism is the one i am most intrigued with. Been studying it for years, well since someone on streator underground posted summer classes at IVCC and Buddhism was one. I decided years ago when I die i want a Tibetan Buddhist burial. My last gift will be giving myself back to nature and I am going to need help getting threw the bardu(sp). I have yet to decide if I will welcome the light and go to heaven or be reborn again. *i just hope I can find some lamas to chant for four days for me so I do not get lost . It will pry be my religion of choice as everything about Buddhism I agree with. As a Buddhist you respect all religions as long as that religion does not hurt or interfere with other religions. so if I chose Buddhism, and most likely will I can celebrate Easter, Christmas, any Christian holiday with my Christian family. Twista religion is fascinating...ALL of them, some dangerous to the point of being almost evil , some full of hexes and curses even zombies, but all enlightening and thought provoking. *Buddhist believe it takes the soul four day to realize it has died and chanting helps the good energies separate from the fading personality. AKA the 1st bardu(sp again)

AKA the 1st bardu(sp again) Buddhism is fine...most Buddhists were born into their religion, a religion every bit as as fragmented, controversial and diverse as Christianity is. Did you put any energy into understanding the underpinning historical, philosophical, and mystical elements of Catholicism and Christianity? You may find Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, Martin Heidegger, and the writings of John Dominic Crossan to be of great interest to you. If all you have is the casual Catholic upbringing and/or Catholic school catechism knowledge many people have, you will be pleasantly surprised by the depth and breadth of Catholic beliefs and the richness and diversity to be found within it. A favorite mystic of mine is Anne Catherine Emmerich. Her Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a available to read online. Mel Gibson's movie about Jesus used her writings as a major resource. www.jesus-passion.com/DOLOROUS_PASSION_OF_OUR_LORD_JESUS_CHRIST.htm

Dive - the Bible isn't someones interpretation. The Bible is God's word. I do think that everyone has their own interpretations of what they are reading though. The more you study the Bible the more confusing it can be. I think God wants us to keep searching as it brings us closer to him when we do. The Christians believe that since Jesus died on the cross our sins will be forgiven if we ask for forgiveness. When we ask for forgiveness we have to be sincere. In other words you can't say I am sorry I robbed that bank and then go rob other banks. Reading the Bible and going to church are ways to become closer to God. I don't think that you have to do either to get to Heaven but I think if we think we can just be nice people and not keep God in our lives daily we are fooling ourselves. I go to church as a way to thank God for all the blessings in my life. I just read a book called Heaven Is For Real. It is a quick read and is comforting. It is about a little boy who went to Heaven during a surgery and he gives detailed descriptions of Heaven. It is written in a very convincing way. There is also a book called 23 Minutes In Hell. You can get the CD for free at Homebakers. They have them on the counter. It is written by a man who claims to have been taken to Hell and then was taken out again by Jesus. It is scary to listen to and I know I really don't want to go there after listening to it. The basic message of the CD is that Jesus loves us so much that he wants us to know what Hell is like and that it is real so that we can take the steps not to go there. He doesn't want any of us to go there. I think the best way to get closer to God is to read the Bible. It isn't an easy thing to do but there are study Bibles that give explanations in today's terms that make it easier. Dive - this is where man's interpretations come in but the people that interpret it go to great lengths to try to keep it as accurate as possible. They are way smarter about these things than I am and I have to take their words on faith. I belong to a Bible study group and I have shown frustrations at times and I would like to believe what one of the women who has been in study far longer than I have believes. She sums it up that God knows what is in our hearts. If we are good people and have Jesus in our hearts we will be saved. Key words - you have to have Jesus in your heart. Twista - I have an extra study Bible you are more than welcome to use. Hippy - I have a close friend from the Philippians that believes in Buddhism. My main problem with Buddhism is that they don't believe in an absolute God. The way they live their lives is to be admired though. I believe in one God.

lucky said."Dive - the Bible isn't someones interpretation. The Bible is God's word."
the bible is sorta gods word but not really. The books of the bible are written by those who had contact and experiences with Jesus. They wrote of what Jesus told them and what happened when he was here.
lucky also said Buddhist do not believe in god... This is true to a certain point. they reject a creator, deny any view on creation. Belief in God is considered to be a hindrance of getting nirvana, the goal of Buddhist practice, well the highest goal anyway. They do believe in darmakaya or "the real body" which Buddhist manifest from, the Buddhism I am most interested in, mayana calls theres trikaya "three bodys" which are body of coarse other two space and time. In other words, if I chose Buddhism my trikaya will be the father, son and holy ghost. Hence i can believe in creation by default of the Trikaya or aka three bodys.
I am sure there are plenty of mis spellings in the Buddhist names but not taking time to look them all up. I used phonics to spell them or in other words I spelled them as they sounded lol

the bible wasn't wrote by god. it was wrote by men that were bias to their religion and their beliefs. i was raised a catholic and i know the bible very well. the bible is a personal writing done by many men. as men they will embellish the facts of their writings to make their religion seem to be the only one. as with any religion.... books were written by leaders to guide their flocks.

The Bible was indeed written by men but it was inspired by the Holy Spirit and we are taught it is God's word through man by the Holy Spirit. We weren't there and we didn't see the world when Jesus traveled the Earth so that is where faith comes into play.
