And most of them knew a head of time that they will be loosing their jobs. They should of looked and apply else where.

I just wish more people would show a bit more faith in our Mayor. Some don't believe he has any skills. Same said for the City Manager. Maybe it was perceived by many as being foolish to stop the sale. He said they'd close it and they have. I trust Jimmie Lansford and Scot Wrighton to do their jobs and represent those of us who pay taxes to this city. Like Old-timer said, for those of you that think we'll have the same services as we have today, not with 200 less employees. We just took it on the chin. Why rebuild something when the current building can provide everything they will need? They will still be liable for the building even if it sits empty.

Sounds like words of someone who belonged to the "good old boys club". Certain people had or have a significant other, that was employed by the old business, that is being purchased.

And most of them knew a head of time that they will be loosing their jobs. They should of looked and apply else where. You just don't get it, do you? You may not know someone directly effected by this, but you will know someone who will feel the economic pinch indirectly. 200 jobs, GONE! A huge hospital, SHUTTERED! Do you know what 200 jobs means to Streator? Do you know what it means that a huge building like the hospital will be closed and sitting there empty? "They should of looked and apply else where" Captain Crunch says. This will have much more of an effect than the 200 jobs that will go bye bye. This is not a good day for Streator. I wonder if anyone knows how many jobs went with Thatcher's when they closed the doors for good? That was a horrible day, too.

Nobody cried loudly when Anthony's, Owens, Thatchers, the county health office, Dwight Prison, theaters, & many other factories in this town close or relocated. Now that a city officials relation "s job is on the block, a concern is exhibited to stop , the transaction. Life goes on, get over it.

Bottom line, anyone that looks at it like we just lost 200 jobs simply does not understand life.
I'm not one to side with cityslicker very often, but he is exactly right, you can't just employ people without the revenue source to back it up.
I have news for you, there is another shoe that will probably drop soon enough................... We haven't had a Hospital for several years now, just a triage station.

Does anyone else feel like smoke is being blown up our a&&, new building, location unknown, ER not allowed in Illinois without inpatient services but we are gonna try, corporate spinning at its finest!
The mayor and city manager tried to stop it and everybody carried on that they were wrong, oops and as for cap'n crunch , those that live of the state need not carry on about they had warning and as for your theory on the heart attacks, yea they flew them out but you were stabilized first, hope you can hold off for 30 mins to make it to Ottawa when you are dieing!

would it had matter who bought the hospital? if HSHS had kept it I think they would have had at some point downgrade to stop the bleeding. the building is a dinosaur and very costly to maintain it.

So osf bought the hospital and plans to build a new 30,000sqft Building and demolish the hospital. and new building won't have a er. It is similar to the St Mary's health clinic building in Ottawa.

Nothing has been said about demolishing the hospital yet. From the paper "In a memorandum with HSHS and the city government, OSF agreed to use the existing hospital building to deliver outpatient services until the new center is built. OSF will then "repurpose" the old hospital and if it cannot do so, it will demolish the structure and restore the site within three years of the change in ownership, the memorandum said." Like it or not, that building is a large reason for killing the hospital more than anything else. It is a behemoth, and a dammed expensive one to maintain at that. You can't just keep something like that around without utilizing it.
