Does anyone else feel like smoke is being blown up our a&&, new building, location unknown, ER not allowed in Illinois without inpatient services but we are gonna try, corporate spinning at its finest! The mayor and city manager tried to stop it and everybody carried on that they were wrong, oops and as for cap'n crunch , those that live of the state need not carry on about they had warning and as for your theory on the heart attacks, yea they flew them out but you were stabilized first, hope you can hold off for 30 mins to make it to Ottawa when you are dieing! I have to dis agree with you and agree with you to a point. the part about stabilizing prior to flying is true, unless death occurs first. But after that the hospital ships out. Period. And that has been happening for some time now. Either they get shipped to Peoria or Springfield.

Nothing has been said about demolishing the hospital yet. From the paper "In a memorandum with HSHS and the city government, OSF agreed to use the existing hospital building to deliver outpatient services until the new center is built. OSF will then "repurpose" the old hospital and if it cannot do so, it will demolish the structure and restore the site within three years of the change in ownership, the memorandum said." Like it or not, that building is a large reason for killing the hospital more than anything else. It is a behemoth, and a dammed expensive one to maintain at that. You can't just keep something like that around without utilizing it. I missed that Sniper, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Yes life does go on, but don't you remember all the signs up about Thatcher's and Dwight Prison, when there was talk about closing Pontiac Prison, when Interlake went out, when it hit's home to another 200 employee's of a small community it will be very devastating. I don't want to drive or be driven to Ottawa or 24 miles to Pontiac, I am just as guilty as most people that complain about the service at the local hospital but it is LOCAL....... I personally have had some health issue's and numerous family members that had health issues and you know where the FIRST stop was ? St. Mary's Hospital Emergency Room I am happy to say that if they were not here I would not be here talking about the mistake that will be made if it close's. If they needed to send me or my family to St. Francis in Peoria or St. John's in Springfield to get me the care I needed, they did stabilize us here!!!!!!!! Ya see I can be to St. Mary's in 5 minute's It will take me 30 minutes to get to Pontiac or Ottawa, that extra 20-25 minutes well, a person could very easily succumb to their injuries or health issue. I by far am not a 100% fan of some of the things that have happened here, but it is not at all the local Employee's fault to what is happening to Health Care in Illinois and the Country. There are so many Doctor's that have left or retired from Health Care in Illinois because of the bureaucratic bullcrap they must face to practice in Illinois, could it also be a issue with the ObamaCare that physicians are through because they do not get paid for month's and sometime's years for the service they provide, or how about your local Pharmacy they also unfortunately go month's without being paid for the prescriptions they need to fill for people Non Military that are on the medical card/free/ObamaCare plan implemented by Government Entity's.I could go on and on about people that take ADVANTAGE of the system and get by with it, but people that are actually unable to work because of major health issues and are unable to get help it is pure bullcrap. There are several people on here that let the Government pay for their housing, their food, their children's schooling and they go out and they work for cash and eat fast food all the time, and when they move from government funded housing and totally destroy the place intentionally they should be put in prison for at least a year and be taken off ALL government program's FOREVER. Sorry was I ranting, It is all true.
I ABSOLUTELY am not and would never talk about Veterans or any Service members active or retired, I am talking about the individuals that are able bodied and want handouts. If my nomenclature was wrong I wholeheartedly apologize.

Iam a Desert Storm Vet and you are saying that people like me aren't allowed medical care,Housing, Ect. I caught a sniper round in Iraq and now because of it I am developing some issues. So now you are saying that I am not allowed care from the VA (Government) BY the way where were you ? So next time you talk crap remember to thank a veteran for serving and tell them they aren't allowed free health care Ect. Just ranting Things aren't what they seem or the rumor mill gets going you jump on the band wagon so harleyrk stick it up your@## I SERVED MY COUNTRY< HOW ABOUT YOU!!!!

Every one that are on Medicare or Medicaid will die in this town. cause neither one of these will cover helicopter ambulance They cover ambulance transport only. And if osf is setting up to life flight everyone instead of ambulance Then 80% of the population in this town will be dead by the time they get to Peoria or Springfield.

Nobody cried loudly when Anthony's, Owens, Thatchers, the county health office, Dwight Prison, theaters, & many other factories in this town close or relocated. Now that a city officials relation "s job is on the block, a concern is exhibited to stop , the transaction. Life goes on, get over it. What rock have you been living under? The opposite seems to in fact happened. While you couldn't turn around without bumping into a Save The Prison sign, bumper sticker, T shirt, there was out and out outrage that the city stick it's nose in to save the hospital.

I want to be clear, I was not talking about Veterans, and the people on here that know me know I would never ever be disrespectful to a Veteran.

There are issues where people cannot be flown because of air pressure such as a brain aneurysm

Helen, why didn't these "activists" vote out the dumbacrats that were & still in state office? The dummies allowed these morons back in office. Look at the budget mess the puppet from Lasalle-Peru & his bosses got the state in. The n•gger & other got obamacare passed & started this big mess. The dumbacrat party has a large responsible in the healthcare problem going on now!

we could turn it in to a low cost senior housing center sniper. Not so sure about that Dive, just keeping the boilers and cooling tower certified and running could cost more than you would make from renting even at market rates........ When you get into systems to support a building of that size, costs go up exponentially. We use the same HVAC contractor, and I know what we spend............not to mention the tech and I have spoken about the expense more than once.

This is another example of people not using something in town and then it closes and then people wonder why. I said the same thing when the Majestic closed.
There are about 20,000 people who live in the 61364 area code. That's enough to support a movie theatre and a hospital. The problem is, people in the 61364 area code didn't support either enough for them to stay open.
There is strength in keeping our dollars local. It supports the community in so many different ways. If the hospital was being utilized by everyone who needed a hospital for whatever reason, then it wouldn't have been sold, or if it was sold, the new owners would see the value in keeping it open. There is no value in a hospital that is not being used. Just as there is no value in a movie theatre when the owner has to keep throwing money at it to keep it open.
Now, we don't have a movie theatre because of the excuse that they didn't show first run movies. People are now wanting the theatre back open.
Now, we won't have a full service hospital because of the excuse that the service wasn't the best. People now want the hospital to stay open.
It's too late for both. I hope people remember this and support the remaining things we have. The appliance stores, the restaurants, etc.
The fallout from the hospital closing and the elimation of those 200 somthing jobs will have a ripple effect in so many different ways.
It's a shame.
