So let me get this straight, Streator is now only an Emergency room?
Healthcare is a very strange business................
Pontiac OSF seems to be able to have both UC and an ER.

"Patients needing less intensive treatment — those with sprains or strains, insect bites or minor illnesses — are advised to see their primary care providers or obtain immediate care through an OSF PromptCare facility to avoid fees associated with life-saving emergency room services," according to the press release.
The nearest OSF PromptCare is at OSF HealthCare-South, 1640 First Ave., Ottawa.
So people on medicare and medicaid still have to go to ottawa or pontiac for medical care.
UNBELIEVABLE!

That is not even true.
They will not turn you away for you ability to pay or not pay.
I know people who have been on both coverages and were treated and covered.

Absolutely, but the question is, will Streator be only an Emergency facility, or will both operate as they do in Pontiac? Level of care is one thing, cost of service is entirely another. Seems kind of foolish to have to drive to Ottawa or Pontiac for UC services when the facility is right here and open anyway.

I think the UC in Pontiac has limited hours though, like closing at 6 (?) I may be wrong.

Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time there recently with a family member. OSF is so much better than St. Mary's was. (Sorry, but it's true) My family member had to be moved to OSF Ottawa. That is an excellent facility! It's also a lot bigger and closer than Pontiac. I've always been impressed with OSF Ottawa.

Back years ago when I broke my leg, I piled myself into that little Ford Festiva(with a stick and a broken leg mind you) and drove myself to Pontiac because I knew they were in my PPO and Streator was not. They had me stand to check in and fill out paper work. It hurt and I protested that I had a broken leg and they didn't seem to care or mind. Once they examined me and confirmed it was broke they wouldn't even let me slide from one bed to the other on my own. They didn't want to release me on my own. They asked how I got there and I told them the same way I was leaving, by driving myself. Once I got the bills (how over complicated do they make all of THAT mess) I found that they were billing me because some Dr that read the Xrays or some tech that printed them was NOT part of my PPO. We went round and round but I refused to pay that portion of my bill. The Hospital agreed to write that one off. What are you supposed to do, ask each person along the way if THEY are part of your PPO and reject them if they are not? I drove to my PPO Hospital, that SHOULD be sufficient. I am really glad I don't have much dealing with Health Care. I think it would stress me out if I did. were you given pain meds for said broken leg? if so, I don't think they're legally allowed to let you drive yourself.

Also, I've never had an issue with HSHS or OSF. Both have been great. It is all a matter of opinion.

They got official ER status Thursday. Unfortunately, I was there with a family member.

Why are they still transfering people to ottawa,if the er is open again here? Thought there would be lesser ambulance Transports now, that our er is back to er status.

Even with Streator having an Emergency room, there are certain things that people still need to be admitted to the hospital for. The emergency room is here to stablize a person if things more than that then we still have to go out of town.
