A teacher friend in Facebook reposted the grade school classroom that did not have heat was her classroom and the rest of the school had heat. Apparently her fan had a burned out motor and would not heat the classroom. So this was bad information indicating the entire school did not have heat.

I grew up in an old school building where by the time it warmed up to be comfortable it was time to go home

It's not that cold out. How many kids go outside to play in this weather with just light jackets on? It sure doesn't seem to bother them then. And parents and adults are the first to cry that little jonnie's not getting all the comforts he deserves. Boo hoo. Give me a break. For every day the schools keep the heat off when it's not that cold, think how much money is being saved.

I think there is a difference between playing outside, which generates body heat, and sitting still trying to study in 53 degrees.
There are studies that show that our kids could learn better in a more comfortable environment.
Are we trying to save a few dollars or give our kids a good education?

There are studies that show that our kids could learn better in a more comfortable environment. Are we trying to save a few dollars or give our kids a good education? Well, studies show that kids actually learn better when they actually do the studying too. Maybe we should concentrate on that. I'll bet studies also show that kids who actually go to school every day learn more than kids who miss 2, 3 or more days a month. Maybe we should concentrate on that. We didn't miss school unless we were on our death bed. That's why kids have entitlement issues today. Everything is supposed to be fair and everything made for them to be "more comfortable". They need to suck it up and live in the real world. Life isn't fair. Too bad if you're a little chilly in school. Sit there and learn, work hard so that some day, when you're an adult, you're not living in a cardboard box under a bridge and REALLY freezing your azz off. How unfair to little johnnie that he's a little chilly in school.

I agree it is to cold. Specially today. I spent a good 6 hours straight outside today and I had on two layers of pant's and two coats. I'm sorry but if it's SNOWING the heat should be on. The other day's wasn't to bad but today it sure was. But then again there are some people on here that can only look at the negatives about other's even if they don't have a clue. It's perfectly fine talking about "other" kids but until you have your own, or it is your own, your gonna be stuck grasping for straws.

I do have my own...plus 9 grand kids and if they came whining to me about it being chilly in school I would tell them the same thing...suck it up and dress warmer.
They don't have heat on yet in my kitchen at work. We have to run the exhaust all the time that pulls the cold air in from the outside. It's like running the air conditioner on full blast. They don't switch to the heat until the first of November in the kitchen. I just make sure I dress for it while I'm working.

I saw this thread and asked one of the boys if they turned the heat on in his school yet. He said no. I also asked him if he thought it was too cold, again his answer was no. Keep in mind he's 11

I think that with paying high School taxes, you're child should be comfortable.........then again they are on a tight budget.......... thank you for dumping all Americas money down the drain / giving it way...... shakes head while puking.

They should pretend it's 100* outside, and the air is on.

This whole thread started because someone's teacher friend was whining. Not kids. No surprise.

A teacher friend in Facebook posts the grade schools do not have the heat turned on. it is 53F in the morning and 60F when school gets out. Dress your kids warmly. Also, in my opinion, teachers should not be posting on facebook anything concerning their employment. Many a job has been terminated because of what people post on FB about their jobs.

There would be plenty of money in the budget, if over 70% of the money did not go to administration, overpaid teachers, and aides"babysitters". Most of the spawn will never succeed in life and will end up on the welfare rolls, like their deadbeat parents. Proliferate and milk the taxpayer, those words will keep them happy. I hope the lunchrooms are warm, while the spawn is eating. A taxpayer supported mid-morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack. I hope they do not forget their free backpack full of food , for the weekend! They can add it or sell it with food stamps, that is being handed out.
