After walking 15 miles in 10 foot snow drifts, we Kindergarteners had to shovel coal into the furnace a Greeley School. The rich kids at Garrfield had buses and a janitor. Thats why we Greeley people are so dum. LOL

The point is, these kids need to be dressed appropriately for the weather... But you can't legislate common sense, and it's obvious that's exactly what is lacking in some parents these days... I couldn't agree more.

Well that will be a disappointment to those that think our kids need to suck it up and just don't need a comfortable learning environment.
Too bad we didn't have a school board member on here to let us know what is really going on in our schools.
The likes on posts about letting the kids endure the temperatures to save money seemed to give credibility to the opening poster's original comment.

We might start getting along...

I can only speak for myself. But, when I'm told that it's comfortable, by kids, and that the heats not on, by this thread then I see no point in jumping up and freaking out about it. If the kids had said it was cool, or COLD, then of course, it would be an issue. I don't understand the need to freak out on things that are no problem.
The bottom line was, the kids were all comfortable. THAT'S what we should make our judgement on.

A teacher friend in Facebook reposted the grade school classroom that did not have heat was her classroom and the rest of the school had heat. Apparently her fan had a burned out motor and would not heat the classroom. So this was bad information indicating the entire school did not have heat. A great example of why this teacher should have kept her professional business off of facebook.

I work at a school . Our school is fine and also I find it funny kids come with shorts and tee shirts on to school. If they wear coats or jackets to school they take them off at recess.

Not everyone jumps the gun on every single thread that is started on this board. Before I commented I asked my child who attends school in the Streator Elementary School district and he said it was not cold. Plus, judging by your prior postings on the ineffectiveness of our leaders, I'm surprised that you would even offer the suggestion for a school board member to come on here and let us know what is really going on. Had one done that, would you have believed them? My bet is NO. The powers that be at the school district are not going to let our kids freeze. That being said, the parents need to make sure their children are dressed appropriately. This is Illinois after all, weather has a tendency to fluctuate.

This could be fuel for the fodder. Oh, I really mean fuel for the father(of two) tear down campaign you are planning in case he throws his hat into the political ring again.

Ii have worked in a school too. The kids will wear just what their parents put on them to wear to school. Part of our job was to look after these childern and make sure they came home with ALL their clothes (Jackets, sweaters, shoes...etc.) AND their homework assignments.

I didn't jump the gun, I was just giving my opinion in response to a comment about how much money is saved each day that the heat is left off. FOT liked that comment. I felt that liking that comment gave credibility to the heat being left off on purpose to save money. He is very opinionated on my talking about the negative things that go on outside my building, violence, and what a good citizen would do, but wouldn't comment here to clear up a misconception.

I did not like any comment on here. If I did it was by accident as I was scrolling through on my phone.
By the time I saw this thread it was already starting to run wild. I made a simple phone call and found out that the buildings were fine temperature wise. 1 person makes a comment on Facebook that made it look like the whole school was cold. Would my comment have made a difference? Do people really think we would sacrifice the well being of kids to save a couple dollars on heat? This is why I avoided answering.
