First of all I would like to thank everyone for their kind words of condolence...all of us really do appreciate it. And thank you for all of the PM's, texts, and phone calls too. To all of us he wasn't "just" a cat, or just any cat for that matter. Now let me tell you about Moe. He showed up here 7 yrs. ago during the winter months skin and bone, all of his foot pads were badly burnt, and his whiskers were all also burnt off. We didn't even know that he was even a long haired cat, he was in that bad of shape. The very first thing that we did as responsible pet owners was to have Countryside neuter him, and get him all updated shots. Doc Harms estimated that he was an old boy then who had led a very rough life. Who knew where he'd came from, or what all turmoil he had endured...and to grow to be a 15 lb. gorgeous boy. So.........as far as all of you who are pointing the fingers at me insinuating that I SHOULD have kept him in...was so wrong of us to do. He truly loved it outside and would fight us out the door to be able to be outside. I NEVER ever thought that he would be in any kind of danger in allowing him to go outside, or otherwise we wouldn't have let him out. He was very resourceful as far as watching for cars...and he knew both of our vehicles, and many of other people's who'd come here, which he would greet. To NOT allow him outside would have been cruel to him, in my mind's eye. He loved all of our neighbors, the adults, kids, and as well as other pets whom he'd go visit with all the time. Trust me ALL of our neighbors who knew and also loved Moe are very upset over this whole ordeal as well. Now, as far as what to do regarding these dogs......it is ridiculous that we do have to resort to carrying pepper / bear spray / a cattle prod / pellet gun / or a 45 << which trust me I have soooooo thought of them ALL! It's quite disheartening to even conceive shooting ANY animal...especially when I've heard that suggested by, and from many professional people. I don't really have any answers...just that we ALL need to be aware of these dogs that are so often running at large. Please protect yourselves, your children, and your beloved pets. CALL City Hall and report these dogs to the ACO's whenever and wherever that they might be spotted. I love ALL animals.....and of course I do realize that it isn't of fault of theirs to do instinctive things, especially when they get that "pack" mentality, and to how they were raised and allowed to be. IT'S the owners who of course who are TO BLAME! And it's high time that they do be held thoroughly accountable. M

Your neighbor friend, was very sad, too. We did see the black and white cat, while I was there. How dare anyone say, 'just a cat' I am not a cat lover, but some of my friends are, and that is a terrible thing to say.

TOSH...please tell her that it wasn't Blondie, the one that she does know on Elm...this is on Monroe. Tell her to look out her kitchen window in our fenced in backyard. She is also a fat cat and is now only allowed to go outside in the fenced in yard..she's too fat to even attempt to climb that fence. I have warned Barb across the street too, to watch out...but she also feeds many strays on her porch and provides them shelter there, out of the kindness of her heart. The black and white one is Roamie. AND ...........before any of you start preaching about this neighbor feeding strays...let me tell you that this woman and her family have gone above and beyond finding good loving homes for many of these strays. And also more importantly when they are able to befriend these stray cats, and then able to catch them...they ........ spay and neuter them ALL at their expense. Those people already do have a special place in Heaven for attending to God's little creatures, due to AGAIN irresponsible pet owners! M

I wonder why the city council's newest member, has not chimed in, on this, & other important topics? This member, must have been told of the " good old boys"way of doing business.

M, I am really sorry for your loss. I have seen these dogs as well, and they have charged my fence to try to get a hold of my wife's pug. Like you said, I am surprised these dogs are vicious, as they are docile breeds. I have a black lab as well as the pug, and he is as sweet as can be. If I see these dogs again, I will call ACO and give you a call. FM..when did you see these dogs though, and did you get a close enough look at them to see if they were wearing collars, or what direction that they may have come from...was this also this past Saturday, or another time? I have talked to our mailman and he isn't aware of either of these dogs on our / his route..so, depending on how far the circumference is for his route, he said they could be only a street over to the west of us all here...because we are his cutoff. Two other neighbors down here have come forward to let me know that they've also been charged and growled at! The one woman picked her little dog up and ran back home, granted she was only going on her normal walk heading down our alleyway when she spotted them in your block running towards her. Another guy who also walks his dog told me that these so - called dogs growled at him when he tried to shoo them off his property, showing teeth and aggression towards him. Thank God that he was inside of his back fence when that happened too. BOTH of these neighbors dogs loved Moe and would play with him affectionately...and since this has happened neither of these older people are walking their dogs because of. FM......please DO call me, and I don't care what time it might happen to be either, day or night. I am NOT going to harm these dogs in any way what so ever, I just want to know for peace of mind where they do belong, and also to be able to warn other people to beware of them. Thanks.............. M

Carry a small air horn when out on walks. It will scare the dog and also draw attention of people in the area. It should allow for someone to come to your aid if needed. Tell me you are not serious with this suggestion. An AIR HORN is going to stop a charging aggressive dog? Actually my daughter lil M who is a dog trainer and I were discussing this tonight when she was in town visiting...and she concurred that any loud noise would at least startle them to hopefully retreat, or stop in their tracks. The first time that my lil dog and I were charged upon I wasn't close to home and couldn't RUN..she's told me this from the beginning..DON'T RUN, instinct though! She told me to pick Otis up ASAP and cuff his mouth to cease his barking...then SHOW authority and stomp my feet and yell at them telling them NO. That did work when we were charged at by one shepard, but I have no idea what could have happened had there been more then one dog running together. Years ago my dad told me to act like you were picking up something to throw at them, and they will run, I have done that when strays have come into our yard, and it did work..but I didn't want to find out though definitely if they were aggressive, and more then likely those that I did that with, were not..and yes were also alone. I asked my mailman about pepper spray...and he informed me that he'd been bitten three times during his long stent on his mail route. He told me that by the time you get the pepper spray out and aim it they are more then upon you in attack mode, and that your best defense is to get something in between the attacking dog and yourself, to block the attack. I agree, those air horns are very loud, it would make any animal run.

I think an air horn is an excellent idea.

Did he make a promise to keep us SO members updated on a regular basis? I have talked to former elected officials in this town and in other areas, and they have said that AFTER they got into office, they had to adjust their way of thinking not because of their fellow members(old boys clubs) but because of other things like fiscal positions and regulations and laws imposed by elected officials higher in the food chain.

I think this member was a female. What laws could affect a council member from having and voicing, a difference of opinion? Is peer pressure, the cause of laryngitis and keyboarding cramp?

I stand corrected. I was thinking of Mr. Phelan.I forgot out Mrs. Bedei. I think she has done a good job so far of voicing her opinions at the council meetings. The way this board is, I would think it would be stupid for an elected official to post comments on here. I would most certainly read what is posted here, weigh those comments accordingly, but not argue them here.
