Its not just big dogs either unfortunately. There is a small dog that is constantly running around loose in my neighborhood. My daughter knows the owners and she is constantly trapping him and taking him home and then a few hours later or the next day he is in our yard again. He drives my dogs absolutely nuts and I cannot let my dogs out for fear that he would try to get tough with my BIG dogs and they would hurt him.

M,
I'm sorry to hear about Moe.
There have been a couple of dog running free for a few weeks.
Hopefully they will be caught soon.
It appears Moe was properly pampered.

You can buy a can of Bear Spray on line. It will shoot up to 30 feet, and will stop any dog that ever lived. I am getting one because of the packs of coyotes in the woods behind our house.

Sorry for you loss. We lost our kitty who never left yard either. I feel he was chased by a dog that was seen in neighborhood because there was a dog in neighborhood that is not normally in this area. It was irresponsible person who hit are boy and did not even stop. Someone witnessed it and has make of truck hope I don't see this truck. End of story.

I've been charged twice on my walks now too, one being the ever "so lovable" lab breed. I'll use this space to say the next dog that comes at mine is getting a hard boot to the head. Hard. I'm very sorry to read of the unnecessary passing of your dog, Moe. I think i am going to get me a can of that bear spray.

You can get pepper spray also. Sad that you have to do that but it is better safe than sorry. So sorry M&M. Hugs.

While this may be an option, one thing folks need to remember is that Pepper Spray isn't always such a good idea... Pepper Spray dissipates in a manner that could easily harm more than just the aggressive dogs...One would likely suffer the effects right along with the intended target...The aggressive dog would have to be dangerously close to you in order to accurately spray it, which leaves open the possibility of escalating the dogs behavior... The sad thing is, on ANY given day there are dogs running loose all over Streator...Since SPD does, in fact, have an Animal Control Officer, it shouldn't be left up to the citizens to handle the problem...

Bear Spray is designed to stop grizzly bears, and it will shoot up to 30 feet. Make sure you are positioned upwind when using defense sprays. Otherwise you will spray that stuff in your face from the wind blowing it back in your face if you spray it against the wind.

Doesn't the direction that the animal is charging at you from and not the wind direction determine which way to spray?
