Driving down Main St today and looking at the old building behind Monroe Tap, I believe that the reason that this portion of the building remains is because the buildings to the east share a common wall with it and when the front portion was torn down this part remained for structure safety. Of course, the City should make sure the building is secure. I just have a question here regarding Lloyd's Surplus......what year did they actually go out of business? I loved going in there for painter pant jeans, lol. Speaking of downtown painted buildings, here is the barn downtown....which I think that it is cute. View AttachmentM OMG, that is a bright red. When Oldtimer sees this, I'm sure he will start throwing one of his hissy fits. M, I was going to pull up the post where you were talking about the Ottawa mural painters. It was bought to my attention, so I took a look to verify. The mural on South Vermillion is signed by the same person as one of the Ottawa murals.

Which mural on South Vermillion...the one on the old Vermillion Club Tavern where it is now a residence? Now, if that being the case then how come the ones done on Ottawa buildings are so well done, as apposed to that one on Vermillion you are talking about? Huh? M

The ones in Ottawa are paid for by the city. They commission the artists to show a drawing and then complete the work. Way to fancy for this town.

Maybe his horse is trained CP........... I have never seen him with any clean up items. Now you do know why they always put the horses at the tail end of the downtown parades.....LOL. HA........ M

Now FOT...why would you proclaim those murals in Ottawa "way to fancy" for our town? I would LOVE nothing more then to see murals such as those here! So....... you state that the city of Ottawa pays for those murals, but do you have any clue or idea as to what they do actually cost though? And........... is that done the same then in Pontiac, because they too have some pretty cool murals on their buildings? Just wondering........... TIA M

Because one day while walking down Monroe Street from Main, right by the eye doctors office on the corner there was a HUGE pile of horse do-do.........................and I am talking HUGE!!! ICK! Even though I do walk my lil dog with me, I do carry a bag to pick up a tootsie roll size turd, lol!!! M

If anyone is looking for an opportunity to paint a mural, how about that eyesore wall where the little clock-park is? The Streator Garden Club is doing a great job of landscaping, but then you look up...

You must be talking about the interior side of the wall that is pert of the remnants of 220 E. Main St. They tell me that the city owns that property.
That wall needs to be patched and sealed to protect the property on the west side of it, as well as to give our downtown a better image.
From what I am told though the City does not want to take responsibility for that wall. Look at the rest of the building(the picture posted on page 5 with the military surplus sign on it), obviously they don't want to take responsibility for it either.
The owner of the building to the west is in his 70's, but was out there on scaffold patching in what he could reach. It's too bad we didn't know before they built the park, we should have raised a couple thousand dollars to rent a lift and buy the guy some more mortar and some paint.
I made a symbolic donation of a gallon of paint to the City Council for the unpainted plywood on the front of 220 that faces Main and asked them to please take more pride in the image of our downtown.

Thanks for the correction. I'm a new member of the garden club and heard it mentioned at one of the meetings, just assumed they did it. I still think it's a good place for a mural.

The Christmas music that the clock plays is very nice. They really did a fantastic job beautifying the corner.
