Democracy have we lost it? Are they going to tell us what color we can paint our house next? Blend in with the rest LOL Most of the buildings look like hell. Lets clean this town up people Murals painted on these crummingbuttwalls would look great The city paints the wall down here on the west bridge and dont ask us what colors we want. They cut cornors years ago now it haunts everyone. murals wouyld be better - what was done is not

dont get offensive its just me I am upset that the city lets a person like him get away with stuff. Some people like this person - others do not - I happen to be one of the people that dislike him. Not only personally - but professionally!! He is a liar and a fake.

When the last a$$ leaves town, YOU can pay for it all. Don't forget, the worm can turn and you would be the first on here whining about being persecuted.

Yeah ^^^ if they could have murals professionally done like all the great ones painted over in Ottawa! Now, don't get me wrong here the ones on Carbo's building, A1 Auto, and the Tombaugh one at Don's Furniture...ARE tastefully done. JMHO................... M Don't forget the drama over being forced to purchase a SIGN PERMIT for the A-1 Mural. I do wonder if they made the other 2 purchase said sign permits?

Hawk, I actually left out the part about the inspector searching me out and threatening to fine me for a fence that does not require a permit to try to be nice to the City. If everything that I did was to try to put the City in a negative light, I certainly would have made sure that people knew. However, because I didn't provide that fact originally, it justifies your assumption that I searched them out? It really just didn't seem like it was something that everyone needed to know about the situation, but I guess if I'm going to have someone picking apart every detail of what I have to say to try to figure out my motives, maybe I better give more details. While I was on the phone with the inspector, I think I may have farted. Maybe that changes the whole situation? This thread was all about color of buildings, whether people like choices like mine or what the City is pushing. It was the sole point of this conversation, until you railroaded it with your attack on my motives. C-I-T-Y, Yeah City!!! Now your just being ignorant.

I've expressed my opposition to these restrictions before; Streator has thrived in the past without them and can again. If someone wants to open a comic book store and wants to paint the side of his building to look like a comic book to try to create a brand and some attention for his business, I think he should be able to. He can't very well do that with subtle, neutral earth tones, in my opinion. Those things may go over for the burbs and other places with lots of business, but this is Streator. I think we need businesses here and that they need to be able to get some attention, possibly with some color. This is just one insignificant person's opinions though. Since the topic was brought up, and so many people liked my color, I wanted to get a better idea of what others think about the issue. Some of our council members and their spouses read SO, maybe they will decide that our community is actually accepting of color and not pass the restrictions. I wasn't purposely trying to push buttons. I like playing devils advocate at times. Is it possible that not restricting businesses and allowing them to paint their property any color they desire, might also drive future or existing businesses away from being their neighbor? Suppose I want to market my flaming hot bbq sauces that I market as "Hell". I want to paint my building blood red and I want to locate it next to the Christian book store. Should I be allowed to paint my building that way and have a hanging sign with the business name "Hell" on it? Would that be fair to my current neighbor? Could it potentially keep other businesses from wanting to locate next to me? I know I am outnumbered here but if I was looking to open a business downtown it sure wouldn't be next to a building such as you have painted yours Kyle. To me, it looks like all it needs to cap it off is a torn up couch and recliner sitting out front. I'd be ticked if I owned a neighboring building.
