I didn't search them out at all. They came searching me out, that was when I told them that I was going to put bird cages there. Please do pull up where I said that I searched them out to tell them that I was putting bird cages there. That was quick, you must have an inside line. Good for you. Yes I handed a letter to the City Engineer as I explained to him that I was putting bird cages there. He didn't have a problem with it. No application was needed. Chickens are birds and are allowed in non-residential zones, so what is your problem? Here you go. Again, I don't have to make stuff up. it's all right there. Im using your own words. So therefore if i'm using your very own words and you claim I'm making stuff up, by logical standpoint. You sir would be the one making stuff up.

That doesn't say that I searched them out at all.
I told them that I was putting bird cages up there while I was defending myself from them searching me out wanting to fine me.
There is a big difference in my opinion.

Please KYLE...explain which buildings here are pictured? That is not your building...but where is it? We have ONE mural that was professionally done here by the Library which I think looks great! Now if we could get the artist who did all of the murals in Ottawa which in my opinion is a VERY talented artist...then YES by all means go ahead with THAT artwork!!! As I stated in my thread I am not in favor of painting over any brick because once done then try to remove that. IF done professionally as per Ottawas murals then tastefully yes that can be done. I noticed also that the old Dorsey Ice Cream building that the owner is painting the brick, which btw is a Barr brick building.............. he is painting this white and outlining the letters in black, BUT he has trim painted on that building that is some purple and avocado.................. Things can be painted tastefully and professionally...and how per your thread can your building ever "blend" in, really...I don't quite get your thread here? ................ M The building in the picture is the former Streator National Bank/Murry? building. Before I patched and painted my wall, it had pieces of brick and mortar missing and was just deteriorated looking. You probably don't remember what it looked like because it did blend in so well with so many of the other deteriorated buildings downtown.

That doesn't say that I searched them out at all. I told them that I was putting bird cages up there while I was defending myself from them searching me out wanting to fine me. There is a big difference in my opinion. Well if you write a letter, and that letter explains your intentions, and you hand it to the person you wrote it to. Wouldn't you have to search that person out to give it to them. Oh and so now you did say you told them you were putting bird cages up, boy oh boy. Two post ago you were telling me i was making stuff about you and the city engineer. Myself, take a break for awhile, collect yourself and your thoughts and get your story straight. Your lexical disambiguation is confusing yourself.

I thinks his just trying to push people's buttons. I've expressed my opposition to these restrictions before; Streator has thrived in the past without them and can again. If someone wants to open a comic book store and wants to paint the side of his building to look like a comic book to try to create a brand and some attention for his business, I think he should be able to. He can't very well do that with subtle, neutral earth tones, in my opinion. Those things may go over for the burbs and other places with lots of business, but this is Streator. I think we need businesses here and that they need to be able to get some attention, possibly with some color. This is just one insignificant person's opinions though. Since the topic was brought up, and so many people liked my color, I wanted to get a better idea of what others think about the issue. Some of our council members and their spouses read SO, maybe they will decide that our community is actually accepting of color and not pass the restrictions. I wasn't purposely trying to push buttons. I like playing devils advocate at times. Is it possible that not restricting businesses and allowing them to paint their property any color they desire, might also drive future or existing businesses away from being their neighbor? Suppose I want to market my flaming hot bbq sauces that I market as "Hell". I want to paint my building blood red and I want to locate it next to the Christian book store. Should I be allowed to paint my building that way and have a hanging sign with the business name "Hell" on it? Would that be fair to my current neighbor? Could it potentially keep other businesses from wanting to locate next to me?

Ok, so you consider my writing a letter explaining what I was doing to try to get out of the fine they came to give me, was me searching them out to let them know what I was doing.
We obviously just have differing opinions, there is no sense in even talking about these details.

dog, if I owned the book store, I would change the name to Heaven, paint it accordingly, and send a picture of the two businesses next to each other to Jay Leno. What a great way to promote a business.

Who cares what color a building is painted? This citizen owns the property and pays taxes. That is what those hideous windmill owners say, about their spinning moneymakers. The city made enterprise zones and kissed their shady bottoms, to get a little revenue. Get off his donkey and enact a covenant, if you want restrictions.

I still just can't believe that anyone would think that writing a letter in response to threats of a fine would be considered searching them out to let them know what I was doing.

I was at the Post Office yesterday and got to see Kyle's building. I think it really looks very nice! I think that it is a positive thing for downtown. Just like the wall portrait near the library. I hope someone can get those ugly brick walls painted at the "pocket park" at Monroe & Main.

I hope someone can get those ugly brick walls painted at the "pocket park" at Monroe & Main. Someone suggested to me what a better use of a portion of the $138,000 that would have been to improve our image, saying that when people drive down main and see that, they won't bother getting out of their car to see the fountain.
