Alright after reading this I keep seeing several comments that their is a city park with a play ground for KIDS that spring lake is for nature and people assume just for adults. WRONG our children should be taught to ENJOY nature, to appreciate it. To many people just like to stick their children with material things. Then that is all these children learn to appreciate. A good majority of my child hood I spent done at the river, the river walk, or the miniature woods by second street. It was very rarely did I venture down to the park only a few blocks away. And whenever I did more times than not you caught me up in a tree rather than on the play equipment. I think it's GREAT that people take their children their, my children's aunt took mine their the other day for pictures. Let these kids play tag, hide in seek, find interesting rocks, or trees, or "hey mommy look at this pretty leaf." People complain of children growing up to fast and why our society is the way it is. Forget that. Spring Lake is meant for the children just as it is for the adults. Maybe the ADULT'S should rethink and prioritize a little bit more in their lives on throwing a fit over kids playing is something decent to do.

i have been there several times where all I could hear were kids and adults yelling and screaming back and forth through the park. I left each time. It takes away from the enjoyment of nature. It's a wooded area, not an open city park with a playground where you expect to hear children at play. I want to hear the birds, and the wind through the trees. You are not the first to complain of children yelling and running thru the park. There have been a large number of people complain that they were disturbed by the noise while they were trying to view and photograph wildlife at the park. I think the only answer to this problem is that parents and grandparents should educate their children on the differences in a city park and a nature park. Let the children know that it is acceptable to run and play and chase at a city park, but that at a nature park you are there to view the wildlife. You might catch a glimpse of deer, beaver and raccoon, things you would never see in a city park. You could educate them on how hummingbirds feed at the feeders and the various birds eat at the numerous feeders throughout. There are many, many parents that do just that when they visit a nature park and then there are others that apparently were never educated themselves on what proper behaviour is. Spring Lake Nature Park is different from the city park and Marilla and, the more the folks of Streator visit it, the more they will see the differences.

You USE TO SEE all kinds of Wildlife there. Now that all the Riff Raff from Uptown has moved to Marilla You hardly see ANY Wildlife other than a Squirrel or Bird.

I would agree with everything in your post except that people assume Spring Lake is just for adults, and this: "Let these kids play tag, hide in seek". How is doing these to things teach a child to appreciate and enjoy nature? On top of that, I would never let my grand kids play hide and seek or any other type of game there. Get off the pathways and get hurt or pick up some poison ivy. Once again, it is a great place to educate kids, not so sure it should be a playground for them. I would assume that maybe the hosts considered the case of the OP as boisterous activity as per the rules on the website: Rules: City of Streator ordinances and Illinois state law impose the following restrictions: § No motorized vehicles anywhere except in the parking lot. § No alcohol without permit within the park boundaries. § No swimming. § No hunting or firearms. § No dumping of trash. § No loud music or boisterous activity. § No solicitation or selling of merchandise without City approval.. § Groups of 25 or more persons must be reported in advance to the City Clerk’s office.

While I agree that children shouldn't be unruly, we also have to remember that they are just that - children...
If the biggest gripe someone has is that "kids were being too loud" at Spring Lake, maybe they need to look inward... Imagine the many, many kids who've never left a hospital bed - then tell them they're being too loud when they get to enjoy the miracles that God has given us ALL with nature... Or what about the single parent who may be out there trying to bring some calm into their own chaotic life?...Should they leave their kids at home?...Or take them along to LEARN about tranquility?...
IMHO, some people would find life more comfortable of they would pull the sticks outta their butts, and STOP WHINING about the little things...

Ahhh I see. So other words people can't go there if they are noisy, energetic, and cheerful. Makes sense since I just keep reading about a whole bunch of grumps that have to complain about every little thing. They should put up a sign Spring Lake welcomes, mutes and grumps, if your cheerful or energetic go away. Geez.

We have energetic run jump and play neighbor kids and our favorite holiday pictures of them have been taken during trips to S.L. These are kids from 14 down to 8 and they are, as I said, more than energetic. They have enjoyed the park their entire lives. Our grandchildren have been going to S.L. all of their lives too. Recently we took the 8 and 12 year old boys, along with their 81 year old Great Grandpa out there, and they had a great time. We have video of them calling out to their Papa to ask about a rock or a fossil or some worms on the bottom of a rock. The imaginations of children are not easily turned off, so we found some "blood sucking death worms" out there, according to one young fellow. Great grandpa went there as a child, and he had as much fun 'running' over the hanging bridge as the 8 year old did, they were both pleased that they went across completly alone, no one to attend them and keep them safe!! I may have some differences of opinion concerning the management and designs of S.L. park, but our, also very energetic and rambunctious, grandchildren have always had a great time there, and regularly ask if that can be where we spend part of our day with them. Maybe there was a confusion concerning where the loud sound was coming from. Because, as I said, I know 7 kids who have grown up having fun there, and there's never been anyone asking them to leave

Ha! I've heard "3 sides to every story." before, but yours is a new line for me.
As I said, I really think there had to have been a mix up somewhere, because I can't imagine noisier boys than the 4 that were there recently, and I should add that the "young fellow" who discovered the deadly worms was past 60, not six, but 60 and they all laughed their heads off throughout the afternoon.-)

Rules are Rules.Since it is being taken care of by Volunteers They seem to RUN THE SHOW out there. There are other Parks in the Streator Area.

I still think there is more to this story than kids just being happy and playing loudly. Maybe the caretaker did ask them to quite down and they didn't. Maybe they got smart with her. Maybe foul language was being used. Maybe they were being destructive. We don't know the whole story. I still find it hard to believe that they were just having fun and being loud about it when told to leave, never come back and their license plate number taken down. There has to be more to this story.
