Maybe I should of added, after she was kicked out she went straight to SPD and they told her they can't kick them out its a public park. I'm the first to admit my identical twin grand daughters and their lil sister can be loud, they are under 6 but if you want quiet don't go to a public park, but somewhere private. Its seems the elderly want kids seen and not heard but sometimes ya need to let children have fun and play.

Just an FYI for those who think the city should sell it. They CAN'T! It was bought for $10.00 (via a state rep., from Streator) in the 60's with three stipulations that: It has to remain like it was, completley natural, turned into a nature park, (presently now) similar to others IN the state of Illinois, NO uses TO make money, OR it goes BACK to the state!
The city tried to sell it just before THIS group met @ the T & C TO make it a natural park, in the Winter of 2007?

Seriously? Children shouldnt be allowed to play, laugh, and hv fun in a public, tax payer maintained park! Oh i know the improvements hvnt been w tax $'s so dont anyone get on their high horse. But as city property my tax $s go into keeping the property ...id be damned before anyone told me my children couldnt make noise! Wtf is this world coming to?

Every story has two sides, mine and theirs. What does it matter?

Don't be afraid to stand for what you believe in, even if that means standing alone..

I've never had any problems at Spring Lake. There have been times that kids play on the bridge, jumping up and down on it. The parents just watching them. It seems like the days of making kids behave are gone. It's up to the parents to tell them to tone it down. I'm pretty sure they had to be doing more than just laughing a bit.

I am surprised that Kyle has not jumped into this topic and proclaimed, yet again, that we need new town leaders.

I kids or people are not damaging anything, no one has the right to throw them out because they are having fun.

I would have just said sorry, ill have my kids tone it down, then if the older couple kept ranting on....... I would of said in a nice way (sorry but kids will be kids and we are not leaving, they are just laughing) maybe they didn't like kids to begin with?

My two cents on the subject. I think both sides deserve some blame in this situation. No one should be kicked out of a park for just laughing. But a nature park is different than a park with a play area. People do go out there to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of nature. The city just put in new playground equipment at the City Park for kids to play on a be kids. That being said, I think a little tact on the host family would have been in order. Maybe an " excuse me, would you mind keeping it down a little, many people come to this park to enjoy the sounds of nature. Our city park has just installed new play equipment that your kids might find very enjoyable. Everyone is welcome here, we just respectfully ask if you could be courteous to other park goers who want to enjoy the quiet. Thanks and have a great day"
For those of us who think that it is property paid for by tax dollars and the kids will be kids crowd, try laughing and carrying on like that in the library. Just a little bit of common sense and respect on both sides would eliminate the problem.
