This post hits a big reason why the majestic wasn't supported, Streator folks can't afford to support it consistently. Look at the school district and how many students are below poverty level. It's a very high number. I'd like to know what % of Streator ymca memberships are subsidized or paid in full by other means because they otherwise couldn't afford to be members. That would be a very telling number. I'll bet that if the streator ymca didn't have subsidized memberships that it would be closed right now. There might be a draw of, say 10 people a month who would come from out of town to enjoy the older style theatre experience, but there aren't enough of those people to help move the needle enough to keep it open. Bottom line is Streator people didn't support it. I don't see why anyone would take their money and invest it in a business that has failed about 3 times over the past 7 years. Who would? If people could receive free membership to the YMCA, there would be more people going there. I know a few that work there to receive a free membership that is it. I know you can go to that Streator Incubator and pay a $2 donation and use the gym, which is much cheaper than going to the YMCA and paying $10 for the use of the gym, exercise room and maybe the pool if you are there when the pool is actually open. How much longer do you really think, that the YMCA is going to stay open. I'm sure they are hurting, also. There is two other places to go weight lift in this town, plus having the Incubator for this town to use. The only advantage the YMCA has, is that it has a pool. Which the pool is not always open for use. I saw somewhere, that the incubator is trying to set up teams for the youth for a traveling basketball teams, which will also hurt the YMCA program. "If people could receive free memberships to the ymca there would be more people going there" I would hope so. However, nothing is free. Someone, most likely other Streator residents, would have to pay for those "free memberships". I'm tired of all the "free stuff" the government hands out now. I don't want "free" ymca memberships.

No one ever stated that the government is handing out a free YMCA membership. If that was the case the YMCA would be much busier than what it is. For those people that weight lift, it's cheaper to go to Docs or to Results, per month compared to the YMCA. It's cheaper to donate at the Incubator to use their gym, compared to the YMCA.

He is too busy counting the $$$$ he makes/takes off I-80. Yes & several have had to use legal actions to get back thier money & belongings because of it. No "Probable Cause" An Ex. is a man moving his belongs to as eastern state. They take if all of it when arrested & charged, including any money, the vehicle etc... BEFORE they're found guilty. Did you know there's only 1 more SA in the country that does this in the US? He modeled his plan after Townes plan. All the other cities/states have recognized the illegalities of these pre-mature confiscations.

He is too busy counting the $$$$ he makes/takes off I-80. Courts made him stop doing that for now.....thats why we are seeing more "in town" drug busts.... Its amazing how since his disbanded I-80 possee has been shut down that the "in town" heroin arrests have sky rocketed...it's not like the heroin epidemic is a new problem in the area....its just easier to steal peoples money and arrest pot runners than it is to actually have to put in the hours and investigate drug activity .... And its also an election year... so lets not be fooled into thinking he's hard on drugs... Thats all right for now.....he wont be in office very long.... Maybe if we vote in a local... then hopefully she will put some effort into Streators drug problem Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Kyle .....but maybe with a new SA she can help you with your problems too.....

I will be willing to bet that when its all said and done with the higher courts that the tax payers in LaSalle county are going to be footing the bill for this JO's actions...

You aren't hijacking anything of mine. You certainly won't catch me arguing against replacing our SA. The letter that I talk about getting a response to from his office asking for more information about the beaten tourist was actuality a third letter to him pointing out his campaign rhetoric claims of his office being an open place where the public can come for answers, being false. I do feel that his office could be doing a much better job to help improve our community, but only if our local law enforcement brings the cases to them. If his office is not doing the job properly, our City leaders should publicly point out the real problem, in my opinion. I feel that our City leaders are the ones responsible for our local law enforcement results and should use their position of knowing where the problem is that creates poor results to inform the public, otherwise our local problems are on our local leaders.

So how did that auction go? I would think that a new theatre owner would be a news-worthy event, but didn't see anything in the paper or on Katie's facebook pages. Did they succeed in turning potential buyers away?

It seems that there were no bidders for the March 30th auction, but they are trying again with a May 25th deadline.
It really seems a shame that the building isn't given some value by the City of Streator cleaning up the poor image of the area, clearly stating their requirements to reopen it, and Katie not holding the donated projection systems hostage.
I feel that the community deserves to have the movie theatre that over $130,000.00 was donated to save.
When Katie was reporting that our City leaders had provided her legal advice in the the private civil matter to stay unauthorized in the owner's building, do you think that they thought that appearing to side against the building owner was a good idea?
Katie used to kind of brag that she was long time family friends with our Mayor, "Doc Lansford", as she called him.
Too bad that nothing was done to keep the equipment donated to "save" the theatre in the theatre.
Our Mayor had talked about trying to save the theatre. What is it that he is doing to try to save it? Don't you think he could at least talk his "long time family friend" into giving up the equipment that was donated to save the theatre, and/or be upfront with some reasonable requirements for reopening the theatre?
Are their priorities to actually have more businesses here, or try to keep them closed?
