That's what i thought, Anonymous. But, kyle kept saying it was a mess, with a huge chunk of the roof gone. Maybe those are the best views available? Katie says much needs to be done. Kyle says pai .net t and shampooing carpets. The pics look like more than paint and cleaning. Come on now helen, don't you know by now that I will call out your bending of the truth? Could you please quote where I ever said that it only needed painting and cleaning, without also mentioning repairing? Yes, with the years of Katie running the place into the ground by allowing water to run through it, it does need much repair. Do you think it will be so much that our City will consider the repairs a renovation and interpret that fire sprinklers are required? When I was in the theatre in August it didn't seem to need more than what we put into it to open in 2007.

The sad truth is the majestic isn't going to reopen. If someone wanted to open a movie theatre in Streator it would be cheaper to build new than repair that building. I just shake my head and wonder why people say there is nothing to do in Streator, yet the theatre wasn't supported. Sad. Yes oldtimer, many people didn't want to bring their families around the excessive drunken street brawls, people with their pants down, and other poor image producing incidents to support the unique movie palace and keep the owner from considering it a failure to walk away from his many years of investment in Streator. Now our City seems to be working to keep it closed. That is some sad truth.

Maybe someone who knows what they're doing and doesn't need the city to hold their hand will buy it and open it. Who knows? Yeah? Is that all you think it needs is someone who knows what they're doing? Do you think that would make them know how every city government will interpret their requirements? Is "holding hands" how our City sees giving out information that businesses need? Their not being open and forthcoming with the proper requirements is probably part of why we have so few businesses here. Since there seems to be so few interested in having businesses here, maybe they should stop picking and choosing who they want to be open and forth coming with the proper requirements with, so that maybe we could have more, don't you think? "Dont you think" or maybe its just us...that if the city gave you the full requirements you would just f#ck it up and blame them anyway for your misfurtune...they already know that if you have ANYTHING to do with it that it will fail....

Gee oldtimer, why would you want to respond to your own posts? If you had something else to say, couldn't you just edit the post and add to it? You have already spent years responding to my posts with your unjustified rude insults and name calling. Do you feel that has somehow earned you some type of personal favor from me? Do me a personal favor? Try convincing our Mayor and City Manager to start enforcing our laws properly around the bars so that we might be able to have more businesses here, start treating people better, and start following our laws, and I'll do the same.

The sad real truth is your a pathetic lier...according to the history of the Majestic the place has been opened and closed thoughout its history...and was condemned at times... majesticshows.com/historyThe Majestic was shut down again in 1995, because of the building’s deteriorating condition and lagging ticket sales. The theatre was originally slated for demolition, but later was determined to not be in as bad condition as previously thought. In the September 16th, 1995, edition of The Streator Times-Press, GKC Vice President Beth Kerasotes said “remodeling the Majestic is not worth the money. Considering (Streator) is a small town, it doesn’t warrant fixing up the building,” Kerasotes said. Was Carbo's even at his current location in 1995? See...the way I see it "the sad truth" is if you lie long enough then eventually you will start believing it yourself.....

How is it that they know it will fail if I am involved? Is that because they know that I won't deliver the brown paper bags to City hall so they will not properly enforce our laws in the area allowing the negative impacts to keep many family people away from the area? Is that the job they were hired for, to sit down at City Hall judging who they want to allow to have a business here?

Just because one theatre chain didn't see it as beneficial to work on the building doesn't prove anything about it never being able to be a viable business here. In the 90's, many theatre chains were consolidating, dropping their smaller complexes. What does Carbo's have to do with anything? You don't think this is about just one bar, do you? Many smaller communities than Streator are able to support a movie theatre. The unique movie palace, being very much fixed up in 2007, should have been able to be a viable business, in my opinion. However, our community having such a poor image making us the butt of many people's jokes, also seems to keep many good people and their money away.

Oldtimer, it is important to say things over and over. There may be someone, somewhere who has not heard my message a few hundred times. I am thinking about posting an audio with my message. Properly looped, people could listen to it for hours. My brothers are long gone from Streator, and even my quiet, modest, unassuming uncle is no longer around. They were not short guys.

This is strictly my opinion. To start off I do not believe that it is not the responsibility of the city leader's to come up with a solution for a theatre. Only because it is cheaper in the long run to go to Family video, Red Boxes, Netflix, paperview, Ect. to rent a movie. Plus have the comfort of your own home to watch a movie with family and friend. Even considering gas prices, it's even cheaper to go to Earlville(drive inn) and watch two movies, compared to paying for one movie at a theatre. And the drive inn appears to have a good turn out compared to going to a theatre inside a building. My spouse and two my of teens, have gone to the drive inn twice already this year, and there has been a good turn out. And if you rent a movie, like from Family video, for a 24 hour period, at least, you would be able to watch it more than just one time in that 24 hour period, compared to the cost of getting into a theatre to watch a show one time. This post hits a big reason why the majestic wasn't supported, Streator folks can't afford to support it consistently. Look at the school district and how many students are below poverty level. It's a very high number. I'd like to know what % of Streator ymca memberships are subsidized or paid in full by other means because they otherwise couldn't afford to be members. That would be a very telling number. I'll bet that if the streator ymca didn't have subsidized memberships that it would be closed right now. There might be a draw of, say 10 people a month who would come from out of town to enjoy the older style theatre experience, but there aren't enough of those people to help move the needle enough to keep it open. Bottom line is Streator people didn't support it. I don't see why anyone would take their money and invest it in a business that has failed about 3 times over the past 7 years. Who would? If people could receive free membership to the YMCA, there would be more people going there. I know a few that work there to receive a free membership that is it. I know you can go to that Streator Incubator and pay a $2 donation and use the gym, which is much cheaper than going to the YMCA and paying $10 for the use of the gym, exercise room and maybe the pool if you are there when the pool is actually open. How much longer do you really think, that the YMCA is going to stay open. I'm sure they are hurting, also. There is two other places to go weight lift in this town, plus having the Incubator for this town to use. The only advantage the YMCA has, is that it has a pool. Which the pool is not always open for use. I saw somewhere, that the incubator is trying to set up teams for the youth for a traveling basketball teams, which will also hurt the YMCA program.

Hey Yon, only a moron would say the same thing over and over again. Do you have a brother who, at one time or another, lived in Streator, Illinois? Some morons have been repeating their claims for years that the excessive bar violence and other uncontrolled negative impacts are not a problem. Our City leaders acknowledge the problem but just offer no solutions. Some seem to think that just not talking about the problem will make it go away. It has contributed to a situation that not only continues to hurt our community, but as recently pointed out in the newspaper, has made us the butt of many people's jokes as well. If some people get tired of hearing about it being a problem, maybe it is just time that the problem be more widely acknowledged and actually addressed. With others laughing at us, our City leaders not presenting a solution, and our Mayor not even wanting to allow discussion of ideas, it seems that continuing to talk about their having no solution to the problem is the thing to do.
