Not all that strange, if you can get the building and get it back in shape, you can run the radio station out of the theater, and instead of being a for profit, then you can use it for reduced price showings, perhaps get some local film makers stuff shown, it has some pretty interesting possibilities. The digital projection age makes for some real possibilities that weren't there before. Um, you can be a not for profit business and not have to own a radio station.

The art. stated the radio sta. will be on Columbus St. in Ottawa Sniper. It's says at first, which I took to mean that if or when they get a grant for the Majestic, the station would be moved there.

"Organizers have said the new station — at first — will be a 100-watt FM broadcast station at frequency (MHz) 94.5 FM Channel."
I take the "at first" to mean the station could later be > than 100-watt station, with the words "at first" being between & IN the size sentance, not the location one.
"... The physical studio location will be at 827 Columbus St., Ottawa."

They would them have to go through a much more rigorous licensing process and I doubt you would get it thru. We ran an unlicensed FM station piggybacked onto the carrier broadcast that went thru the dorm at college, the second time we almost got caught we looked into becoming legal ( 10,000 watt transmitter ), and even though we had a licensed technician on our staff, it was going to cost a pretty penny to get legal.

so a 100 watt station in Ottawa that will barely reach us. What need do we even have for another station?

They want to start it in Ottawa, I take it that as soon as they get the Majestic revamped, they would move it here. You would be surprised at what public radio can add.......... Not beholden to Advertisers, things can be said without as much trepidation.

I think it would be great to get youth interested. You know, that ever present whine about getting something for the kids to do. WIZZ used to have that.

There you go, and if you had an operational screen, now we can introduce film making to the community. Here again, I do believe all low power FM licenses are limited to no more than 100 watts, and to get larger, would essentially take it out of the realm of a public access style of station.

But who's going to pony up money towards $500,000? Are the any guarantees that if the money is raised the theater stays open or will they ask for even more? If you donate will you be a shareholder or just throwing money away? It's a no risk deal for Katie and her group if they're spending other peoples money.

Fot, the article says they're applying for a grant, and are asking people to write support posts. Like all those who request people to vote, on Facebook. I didn't see any request for money, just log ins to write saying you support them.

Ok, I guess I'm just bracing for the request for donations to start.

I hope this grant does not involve or lead to taxpayer funding. Don't worry fot , the donation can will be out before you know it. Waste of time and effort. Where's the digital projector?
