The problem is greater Chicago now extends to Springfield.................. Not realistic. I am not familiar with the term Greater Chicago, but Cook and its contiguous counties have a population of under 7 million. You may be referring to the numbers in this study: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_metropolitan_area. Alas, according to this study, along with people living in three other counties in Indiana, we live in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. I admit that on a clear day I can see the skyline across the lake.

Illinois is just a suburb of Chicago since Chicago runs the state.

]Yeah...f##k those lazy GD teachers! They don't know the meaning of work!! Anybody can teach, the teaching profession is a joke! Sniper knows what he's talking about! Hip, hip...hooray!!! And of course, NOTHING is too good for those HARD WORKING Educators, nothing like those private sector professionals who are pampered by their "Nanny Corporations" right? Butters, we get it that your Ox is going to get gored, we get it that you aren't going to like it, hell we didn't when we got it. We didn't whine like spoiled little b!tches, we just went back to work, and if we really didn't like it, we found another job. Not owing your soul to the company store ( company union? ) is refreshing, you might try it sometime. My focus rests in calling attention to your denigrating words and tone concerning educators, education, and the manner and amounts in which society has decided to compensate them.
No $$ referendum is going to pass now or ever...that's a given. It's just a question of watching the schools and the town continue to spiral down the economic and educational toilet.
What's that movie line? "We're on an elevator to hell...goin' dooooowwwwwnnnn..."

Hey lackoff, YOU are the one who comes on here denigrating.
I only observe the difference in how people in the private sector respond versus how those in the public sector do.

Lets see some of the Modern Teachers that are making what they get from the Taxpayers do a Few Shifts on the Hot Side of Owens in the Summer or do what I used to do drive 3000-3500 miles in a week for 4-6 WEEKS SOLID to earn my pay. Plus when I was doing that deal with Dock workers that can not Speak Any English other Dock Workers that are Union that say sorry not Stacked right RESTACK IT or pay this man that is related to them 300 bucks to do that job. Hell one summer I went with my late father when I was in HS and Unloaded his Trailers during the Summer. I made close to 5 Grand in less than 2 Months. How did I make it Every Other day I was throwing off 45K in various Products. I have a cousin that is a Tenured Teacher at Burlington IA with her Masters she is NOT I repeat NOT getting anywhere NEAR as much as a Teacher here in Streator gets for the same amount of time in grade with her Masters. I looked it up she makes about 15 Grand LESS a Year than she would being a Teacher here that is Base Salary. So do not give me this Crap that there is no fat in the Budget FOT called the School Board in the Past was so Scared of the Teachers they always said Yes to whatever they wanted now that Bill is DUE and WE THE TAXPAYERS are going to have to PAY IT either here in Streator alone or as the State of IL when they Take over the District.

The students need some new computer software and tablets, I believe. Lets see if the board can cut some salaries and finally give to the goodness of the student's education. The new keyboarding requirements will be a boon for the spawn, they then could fill out welfare and unemployment forms at the self help kiosks. The school boards do not want face the overpaid teachers and almighty teacher union. Put them on the streets and see how many become SCABS, if an arbitrator allow that to go that far. They could even hire a farmer or two, to scab, provided they have the credentials.

Every Federal Mediator I ever worked with referred to teachers as "whiny." I think most of them could have used a few more Summers 'seasoning' working the 'hot end', 'brickyard', or any number of other blue collar jobs where you had to hustle some. It always provided more than just a good Summer job. It was a little reminder why they were getting an Education, it was incentive to do better, and it was a little taste of having to WORK for a living and appreciate when you got something a little more cushy someday. I can honestly say that every job I worked I learned something valuable and grew some as a person. I walked corn in Garnd Ridge one summer w/ a teacher. Once he got over the sunburn, he seemed pretty content.

If you read my earlier post, I cited your study and pointed out that it included four counties in Indiana.

Ironeagle, I just looked up your stats from Streator and Burlington Iowa. The numbers on the contracts do not match what you said. Here is what I found:
Streator GS Teacher - Masters plus 6 years experience 44,200 Burlington Teacher on the same step 45,000
Streator Teacher- Masters plus 14 years experience 53,400 Burlington Teacher on the same step 58,000
Better check your numbers again and compare apples to apples

Gas might be down but food and utilities are not..

So how does that work exactly if the State starts running the School? Do they make all the decisions? Do they close schools, eliminate positions, renegotiate contracts? Dissolution is a possibility.
