I wouldn't have any qualms about my taxes being raised if in fact it would promote a better educational system. isn't this the same guy that asked for raises for his administration just a year ago and now he is crying they are broke. how do you justify a raise when the money isn't there in the first place butterbean. if you managed your budget the way he is you would be filing for bankruptcy. I think it would be in the best interest for all concerned that the state takes control and makes the necessary budget cuts to save what is left of our school system.

Like I said, I encourage everyone to vote NO. The state is requesting that we put this on the ballot. With the amount of low income in this town there is no way anyone can afford this increase. I can't.
We did cut 2 administrators at the admin building. The curriculum director and district librarian. Most districts our size may not have an assistant supt but the have directors of finance, curriculum etc. it's just other way to title it. There is no room in any building to move the staff there from their current building. If there is we would do it. We have looked at it. I didn't agree with giving anyone a raise and I still don't. No money means no money and I'm not going to give more either as a board member or as a taxpayer.

Thanks Dave for that honesty.
I do think the School Board gets hammered for things that they can't 100 percent control, but many times they do not present the crux of the problem to the population in general.
This State has to address the reasons for the cost being astronomical, Schools do STUPID things, spend STUPID money on things mandated by the State that add ZERO value to a kids education. I suppose we really shouldn't be surprised, because they run the State the same way.
At some point this has to give, and those who work for us will be forced to learn the value of a buck.

My view is this. If it passes, it's never coming off. If it passes, it may tell the state that can continue to short change communities of their school funding because the communities are willing to pay the difference. A resounding no vote to me, is a big F U to the state telling them we won't clean up their mess with more of our dollars. They short us right now a little over a million dollars in general state aid. Pay us that and we are solvent. They took away a couple hundred thousand for transportation. Pay that and we keep a school open. They have thrown so many unfunded mandates at schools that the book showing how many mandates there are went from about an inch thick to about 3 inches thick in the last 10 years. Not only does the state do it wrong at their level but theyre ruining things for everyone else when they take dollars away to pay for the mistakes they keep making. And as a board we need to be tougher when making decisions. We don't have money and have to treat it as if it is own. I don't have extra money to spend so I make tough financial decisions at home and try to carry it through in my work on the board. This is the hardest non paying job there is besides being a parent.

"If it passes, it may tell the state that can continue to short change communities of their school funding because the communities are willing to pay the difference." FOT nailed the underlying problem: The state is trying to shift to local school boards costs that, by law, are supposed to be paid by the state.
I have no clue as to what is going to be the future of public education in Illinois. Looming over everything, of course, is the pension mess.

And of course, NOTHING is too good for those HARD WORKING Educators, nothing like those private sector professionals who are pampered by their "Nanny Corporations" right? Butters, we get it that your Ox is going to get gored, we get it that you aren't going to like it, hell we didn't when we got it. We didn't whine like spoiled little b!tches, we just went back to work, and if we really didn't like it, we found another job. Not owing your soul to the company store ( company union? ) is refreshing, you might try it sometime.

Well Everyone that WORKS for the State or gets anything from this State better be ready for ONE HELL OF A WAKE UP CALL when the New Governor tells Mad Mike NO a few TIMES. Helps having ears down in Springfield in the State GOP Party aka an Uncle down there. From what he has heard if Mad Mike and the Chicago Machine refuse to work with this Governor to REFORM the Tax System TORT System BUSINESS TAXES and a few other items his First Year Budget is going to require a 20% Cut in REAL LINE ITEM SPENDING and the Next Year 10% on top of that to get this State Solvent. Those cuts I am being told are NOT to Education Funding or to the Prison System those cuts are to things like IDOT SOS the General Fund and Other State Services. He is talking Massive Layoffs and is including the Legislatures Budgets for their Staff in those Cuts. He is going to come in swinging a Massive Hammer and Look out.

How we could only wish that were true. I am not sure one guy, even the Governor can effect that kind of change. Additionally, any attempt at reform will upset the Apple cart. Those Apple vendors are powerful and play dirty. There will be a few black eyes, and they will make him look like the corrupt one. I really wish we could get things straightened out. It's killing our State. I mean killing us. I saw a little blurb recently that said that Illinois was the 11'th richest state per capita in the Country. That surprised me. If our people are still among the wealthiest, why are we so broke? Are we losing THAT much to corruption? I think sadly some of us are nodding our heads yes like a bobblehead. I think the difference between the rich and the rest of us is how that happens. On my phone its hard to get a link but more than one report has shown the wealthier getting richer while most of the rest of us have decreasing or stagnant incomes..And the richer you are the more your wealth is increasing...

No one thought that Rauner had a Prayer in Chicago however he got 25% of the Total vote there. He carried 4 of the South Side Wards that are almost all Black. Why because the people of Chicago are growing tired of the Chicago Machine and how they have RUINED this state. They deal with it every Year when Prince Rahm or whoever is Mayor of Chicago raises their Taxes or Fees through the Roof. When the Chicago Teachers Union goes on Strike for not getting that 10% Pay Raise every Year when they have the Highest Wages already in the State for Teachers. When the Teachers they do have ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB. The People of this State have had it and we are speaking by 2 ways in the Ballot Box and by LEAVING this State in Droves. I have one thing tying me to this state that being my mother and when she is gone I more than likely am going to move North one State to WI that way maybe my wife can find something more than just working at a Fast Food Place for a Job.
