I dunno, I can't imagine anyone objecting to feeding a child. Children are the most valuable resource this country possesses. Can't learn anything if you are so hungry you're thinking about eating your notebook. Its really not a child's fault if he or she has a parent that cannot provide for them. The program already fed kids who were low income. NOW the entire student body gets free lunch, if there's a certain percentage of low income families in the school. I have no problem feeding kids that are low income. But, do we need to feed the Hilton's, Kardashians, Kennedy's of the nation? I have no problem feeding any child. And this will take away the 'stigma', for the poor child.

The kids give their pin number when they go through the lunch line.
So, there shouldn't be any way to know who is paying.
I'm just wondering how all the extra free food is going to be provided? What will be cut, to accommodate this? Are there going to be more school closings? The state can't provide for what they're already committed to. So, by providing free lunches to kids that previously paid for them, are educational classes be cut to kids who get no help at home, and already struggle with keeping up? Making them candidates for a lifetime on assistance?

One thing that drives me nuts is they could feed the kids for a whole lot less if they cooked from scratch, not to mention provide much more wholesome foods.
Buying from food distributors and heating it up is not cooking..........

It's a federal grant. The district has the option to withdraw after a year if its not what is expected. Nothing will be cut as a result of this program.

On federal and state level. And my dissatisfaction with these new regs is not directed toward the streator school system. This isn't a change streator made. It has to do with the system altogether. I am not seeing how providing free lunch for rich kids is going to improve the status of those kids who live in poverty.

Our district cooks most foods on site from scratch sniper. If so, then I applaud you. Most get their "scratch" ingredients from places like Fox River foods and IFP ( sorry, I can never remember what it is called this week, it will always be IFP to me.....) and then call opening the cans and heating scratch cooking.

Make from "scratch"? Where did you go to school? This isn't 1914, it's 2014.

Butters, perhaps that's part of the problem, shortcuts in the name of "progress".
Lazy is as lazy does.

Maybe we should cloth the poor kids and buy them expensive shoes so they don't have that "stigma". Less government is the answer. The more we rely on the government the more trouble this country gets into. not everyone needs a free freaking lunch. What more do people want from taxpayers? LESS GOVERNMENT!!

I actually don't believe that there is a "stigma" attached to anything anymore. Divorce, bankruptcy, unwed mothers, adultery, and living off government assistance, very rarely get a negative response.

Something I do find interesting is the outrage concerning Hobby Lobby being in a womans bedroom and supposedly controlling a womans health issues, but I don't hear any of them being outraged that the government will be deciding what their children eat instead of them.

Funny thing, back when we went to school, we had breakfast and lunch...... nobody paid extra, it was in the budget. I guess things do come full circle, except now the lunch ladies don't cook from scratch. Snipe, How, about at the school in Ransom? g
