You won't get another "Choice" I've said it before, long ago, w/Sammons, the city made a "Deal" with them to keep competitors out of the city & they get a "Kickback of $5.00 per customer. I don't know WHY the city still has to honor that, w/the company gone now.. BTW, another reason the vans could be there. is they stager the days off. Like all Co's, there are bad workers, but I know ONE is very good & takes care of problems in ONE visit!

It's called a franchise agreement. Most towns make them with utility providers.

I understand that fo2, but that was long time ago & w/deregs. we can get service choices from > than 1 utility co. now, so it should be in the best int. of all citizens to have the choice.

4 vans sitting in the parking lot is NOT a sign that there are techs available! The vans could be there for several reasons. It may not be a "tech's" van, it may be an extra van, it may be a warehouse van, it may be a tech that has stopped by the office for equipment for a job that he is already working on. Vans sitting in the parking lot is not a sign that techs are sitting around doing nothing! Believe me, I did inquire about the van's sitting there and was told that since the major outage was not a "Tech" issue, there was no need for them to be out there... I've had my own experiences with their "Tech's", like when one tried to tell me that my TV was bad because half of the channels were in black and white...He took a personal call while at my house, set up a side job for after work, then left...It was NOT the TV, it was their box just like I thought it was... Guess their paying customers are quite an inconvenience to them... I know that is not true. I know for a fact that techs do NOT just sit around the office. They have too busy of a schedule to meet to have any spare time. Many times there are vans sitting in the parking lot with no techs in the office. And Family Man, don't group ALL these guys as a "lazy bunch". These techs are under paid and overworked and some are really dedicated to their job and fixing a system for a company where they are not appreciated. If you have a problem with a particular tech you need to let his supervisor know. Many people exaggerate their situation so everything is taken with a "grain of salt". These techs are out there trying to fix Mediacom's problems with not much support!

The city has franchise agreements with all utilities. Gas company, Com Ed, water comp, cable, garbage pickup. By entering into these agreements the city gets free or discounted rates.
You can have another garbage provider but you will pay the city carrier also. You can get you has and electric from others too but pay a delivery charge to the city provider.
