Are they required to live in the city limits? If so ,then the aco is living outside city limits.
Personally I feel if you are employed by the city getting paid by tax dollars from tax payers, you should be required to live inside city limits paying city property tax and giving back to the city.
Cause living outside city limits, taking city tax payers money and then giving it to the county instead of the city is one reason why our taxes keep rising.. It pisses me off when our gov't pass laws in this town and raise property taxes and the employees split to live outside the city limits to avoid obeying these laws and paying their share of property taxes to the city. If you cannot follow and accept your bosses laws in this city ,then quit working for the city taking tax payers money. Cause I am getting tired of all the people of Streator paying higher taxes and the city employees ok with it cause they live outside citylimits to avoid the high taxes your bosses passed.

Let's save our tax dollars and get rid of our aco and let the county aco take over. Least gary doesn't hide and refuse to answer a call to come out. If this is her way to hide from taxpayers, then it's time to eliminate this job and give it to county.

Are you just talking about the ACO or are you talking about cops, firefighters, office staff, librarian, and so on,...?
I believe the city should hire their employees based on qualification and not on where they live...

I thought the city jobs were awarded by who you know or were related to. The good old boy and girl hiring and wage paying system, will never be changed. Family and friends first, the taxpayer's wallet, last. Correct me, if I am wrong! They cannot turn down a wage or benefit increase to their interested parties. Time to cut wages, cut staff, and require those on payroll, increase output.

Using that logic, all our teachers and employees of both school distircts should be required to live in the school distracts that they work in. Little one covered other public employees.
I don't believe it is legal to tell people where they can and can't live.

I for one, think city employees, should live w/in the city. No, I do not mean teachers, but I do mean police, fire, council, etc.

City employees are not given city money they earn wages just like anyone else who has a job; city tax laws are made by your elected officials not your city employees; they city should not be able to dictate where its employees live any more then a private business employer does; the exception being those in the business of community protection should live close enough to respond to an emergency in a reasonable time.

I am pretty sure that city employees are supposed to live in the city limits. I know a retired city employee told me that he was required to when he was still working for the city. It may be just certain departments, or perhaps they have waived that requirement. Are you really upset about where they are living, or the job performance? If someone does a good job, it shouldn't matter THAT much. Also, are they getting paid as a full time job? Even a full time job gets some down time. Are you expecting them to come out nights, weekends, and holidays just because you call? I really don't know the animal control officer. Are your expectations reasonable? Both ACO's are part-time employees and yes their are a few on here that think they should be on call at all times. As for them or any other City employee, they are allowed to live outside of the city limits by a certain mile radius (not sure of how many). Rocket it is Thanksgiving get off your b*tch mobile and be thankful for what you have and quit worrying about everything else.

City employees must live within 5 miles and sign a pre annexation agreement that if their property becomes eligible they must annex immediately. This allows new hires the ability to live in their current house or buy a house somewhere.

You work for the city, you should have to live in the city limits and pay city property taxes like the rest of us. Why should the city employees get a free pass to live outside city limits and not have to pay city property tax and do whatever they want to avoid the city ordinances. They should apply to everyone. Not just to the citizens of Streator.

It's purpose is to say that if you are hired and currently live just outside the city limits, say east of Otter Creek St, that if your property ever is in contact with a parcel of property that is in the city, you would annex your property immediately and be put on city tax rolls. This would allow hires who own a house now outside the ability to take a job and not have to sell their house.

You must work for the city or your husband or relative does. Cause I would be pissed like some of us are. Only ones that support this are the ones working for the city and their families.

On a scale of one to ten, you are pretty f**king stupid rocket.
There is no reason other than police and fire (and even they should be able to live within a certain distance), employees should have to live within the city. They are not "taking the tax money" they are doing a job and getting paid for it.
If you focused all the time you spend bitching about things into other areas, you would probably be so successful you wouldn't have time for Streator Online, which a lot of people would probably like.
