Dog's post not only avoided the question asked by the OP, but was very deceptive, in my opinion, making dragonfly and others think that no tax money was being spent, so I thought that I would provide more information. Why should people be deceived? If someone wants to know how their tax money is being spent, shouldn't they get the correct information? Why? Why must you think that way? Deceptive is a pretty harsh word. His comment went on to say, "Which reminds me, I still have to make a donation to the worthwhile cause too." The fundraising hasn't stopped. Everyone is still welcome to donate. Seeing the United Way tally board in the park, suggests to me, that we have a LOT of generous people in this town. I bet the $38,000 gap from what is already publicly pledged and what is needed for the total renovations will shrink due to the generous people of Streator. Not every post or every move is a conspiracy.

It is settled then. The City gave a restriction of a zoning category that doesn't even exist here. Before I had to say that they gave it an extreme restriction, but would allow it certain places in our community. Now we are free to say that they are so closed minded that they will not allow it anywhere in City limits at all. Thanks for clarifying for us Northsider, I'm glad that we have you here to explain it to all of us.

Not every post or every move is a conspiracy. Dragonfly asked what our tax money was being spent on. Giving the impression that it is all being paid for with donations when that was not the case, is deceptive in my opinion. You can think otherwise if you want, but that is my opinion. Providing the information asked was not railroading the the thread, that was why I pointed out my opinion of dog's statement. Let me give you some more of my opinions on the matter. They have been working on the park for a long time, the fountain issue didn't just come up last minute. If they were planning on getting donations for the fountain, they should never have committed tax payers to the $138,000.00 project. After public complaints about a $375,000.00 loan for park improvements, they started talking about donations to off-set the cost, so is that loan now paid off? Why didn't they think about getting donations for a fountain at that point so they could announce them before committing tax money? This practice of committing tax payer money for their pet projects and then coming back later, if people complain, with some donations does not make me think good of them. These are just one insignificant person's opinions though, they will continue to do whatever they want. Thank you again to the two donors that put up a total of $100,000; I am curious as to who they are. Thank you as well to anyone else donating to it.

I'm very happy that the city is being proactive and FINALLY repairing the fountain and taking steps to improve City Park. It's nice that they are receiving donations for the work. Even if that wasn't the case, I'd still be for the repairs. You bet the City Council will continue to do what they want with their vision for the city. If you don't like the direction they are heading then take a run for a city council seat.

The zoning maps from the city website and the municipal code don't have industrial mentioned in the legend. Go to the existing land use map and tell me it doesn't say Manufacturing/Industrial.

If you don't like the direction they are heading then take a run for a city council seat. Maybe I will, but I certainly don't have to run to be able to voice my opinions about what they are doing now.

You bet the City Council will continue to do what they want with their vision for the city. A majority of them have been there for quite a while. What we see here now is the results of their vision, in my opinion.

deception, as in saying you were putting birds on your roof instead of chickens? If you were as totally honest as you want the council to be why didn't you say you were going to put chickens on it instead of the general term, birds?

FOT, what would the difference had he said chickens been?
Neither is prohibited at his location, nor should they be.
We refer to ours as the ladies, would my verbiage be criticized on here?

If you were as totally honest as you want the council to be why didn't you say you were going to put chickens on it instead of the general term, birds? Ah Yes, I am sure that Streator's Great Chicken Deception of 2013 will be talked about here for a long time to come. Feel free to ignore my previous statements about only half of the cage area being used for laying hens and that I was thinking of getting some other birds. Maybe I would already have some homing pigeons, but I'd like to buy locally and the Military Surplus store doesn't have their hours posted. It has to be a store doesn't it? With as strict as our City is on signs and after Streator National Bank went through such expense to de-value their building, they wouldn't let a sign exist on a non-existent store, would they? Are my chickens bothering you or just your buddy at the bar?

They don't bother me at all. I enjoy seeing them. The chickens are legal. I have no problem. I just simply asked why not just say chickens,

I was thinking that a chicken could cross the road to let the alcoholics(as their shirts say) know that hens don't thingy-a-doodle-doo.
