Just noticed the fountain in the middle of the city park is gone. What is the city spending our money on now for the park?

They are going to put that dragonfly in the park right where the fountain was.

Just noticed the fountain in the middle of the city park is gone. What is the city spending our money on now for the park? It is being renovated due to the generosity of two donors who have pledged $100 grand towards the project. Which reminds me, I still have to make a donation to the worthwhile cause too.

You forgot to mention that the council committed tax payers to the entire $138,000.00 cost before announcing that they had any donations. Thank you to those donors.

Were the donors anonymous?
Its nice to see the city finally fix the park fountain.
Now if they can get downtown with that conform law and work with the smart business owners to start cleaning up main street.

Thank you to the Streator City Council for having the courage do something that would improve the looks of this town, in the face of almost certain criticism from some members of our community. Your believe in the good people of Streator to donate to the project, after the fact, shows me that you believe in the citizens of Streator to step up for the good of the community.

How I took myself post, sounded like he said the taxpayers are on the hook for this cost including the donations. Does that mean the taxpayers pay $38,000 while the donation of $100,000 pays the rest? Or is this cost is covered 100% by donations?

Is this the building with the smart business owners that you want everyone to conform to? Will people even get out of their cars to see the $138,000.00 fountain after seeing this type of building on Main St?

Wth is there 2 doors on the back of that building? There is no fire escape nor some kind of patio deck hanging off the back to even have a outside backdoor. That should be a safety issue there, someone could open the door and not realize there is nothing there to step onto, thus falling to their death.

I am sure that if the owners of it weren't deemed such good, smart business owners by the Good Ol Boy Club, they would be required to make the building safe or be fined out of it. That's the way they roll, right Oldtimer?

I think that a newly renovated fountain will make for a great addition to our City Park. Come springtime, it will be great to see it functional.

No, it wasn't shot down. It was given an extreme restriction that goes against our zoning ordinance. I'm sure you know all that by now, but if you want to get into the details of it again, we certainly can. Northsider got us all reading the zoning ordinances not too long ago and still no one was able to come up with a justification for the industrial zoning requirement. No sour grapes though, I'm just making sure that people know how they operate, in hopes that more ask for change.

Reading it is one thing, understanding it is quite another.
