The over-serving goes on.
I was already in bed asleep, when I was woken up by the commotion in the alley.
A guy was passed on my neighbors air conditioner.
A couple guys with beer bottles and a girl were trying to get him up, saying lets go back to Carbos.
I thought they were friends.
He was so drunk he couldn't seem to even stand up and was crying.
As the other three started to leave him, he fell on the ground and seemed to be unconscious.
They stood in the alley talking for a minute, then I heard the girl say, that she would just meet the others at the Villa.
The two guys came back and were over the passed out drunk, moving him around.
I thought they were trying to get him up, but then the two started running down the alley.
The drunk was awake then and started saying yelling hey, hey.
He got up and started staggering back towards Carbos when he met some other people and started telling them that he was jumped and his phone and wallet were stolen.
Several of these people also had beer bottles, one of them threw theirs at my building.
Shortly after that there was a group of people in some type of altercation out in front of Carbos.
Shortly after that I heard yelling and screaming down the alley almost to the Parkway, and looked down there to see people shoving each other around.
Since then, several groups have walked down the alley with beer bottles, and I've seen two people urinate in public.
This BS keeps our community from thriving.
People don't want to come to downtown Streator because people are over-served to the point they are passing out, urinating, and fighting everywhere. Not to mention the muggings.
It is disgraceful that our liquor commission can not get these license holders to follow the laws.
They are worried about a few harmless hens that aren't bothering anyone but let this BS that has a major negative impact on our whole community continue to go on, year after year.

Now, I just listened to three staggering guys argue about where they parked as they all urinated.
Don't worry though, they remembered that their vehicle was at the parkway, they'll be behind the wheel any minute now.

You need to move, 'cause this is Streator and the bars mean more to the townspeople than you or the Majestic.

I must say the freaks do come out at night. I seen people last night that I don't see around in the daylight. The person I seen last night are the ones you see in Chicago 24hrs a day.

Just because someone witnesses these incidents from their home, doesn't take away from that fact that these brawls, and disturbances are not good for the community. So some people on here feel it's ok that these drunks are getting behind the wheel of a car, and endangering others? This is normal for Streator??? Someone should just pack their bags and move because this is Streator's way of life? We should be wanting better than that. Do the police ever do checks on the bars in this town? We have been to bars in other towns, where there has been an officer outside the establishment just doing checks on people. The people there say that the police go to different bars through the night and do surprise checks. That makes you think twice about having an extra beverage. It also makes the bartenders more aware of who has had enough.

I should accept it?
How many negatives incidents should I have to put up with in one night?
Last night:
eight people urinating
dozens & dozens of people with open containers
multiple fights
vomiting
unconsciousness
a mugging
I know some people want to think this goes on everywhere, but I'm still waiting to see one of these incidents in Ottawa, after almost two years of working there full time (a lot of weekend nights).
Maybe other business & building owners have accepted it and that is why so many of the buildings are empty?
How many people want to bring their kids downtown for a show of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and see these things?
How many couples want to go out to a nice restaurant and see these things?
I keep hearing people from Streator say how they like going to Ottawa to eat at the new Burger and Sushi House, Corner 230, The Boat House, The Row House, etc.
Some of those places are owned by the same people.
We have dirt cheap real estate just a few minutes away, yet these people choose to open additional locations in the same community so that they basically just compete with each other.
The reason that they don't just come open a location here is because in the words of Oldtimer, they have more business sense than I do.
I need to make a video about Ottawa & Streator's downtown night life and contrast the two, so that some people might understand better.
Others may accept it, but I absolutely refuse.

This proves people should not live in commercial areas . These taverns have been downtown since the town was founded. People drank since beer since beer and alcohol was invented.
The police are very busy and they are not baby sitters.

I don't know how you stand it Kyle. I couldn't stand it and I lived in a residential area. I was so disgusted and eventually, fearful, by nothing being done by the police that I moved out of town and am thankful I did. This behavior doesn't just happen around bars, it's happening in residential areas and nothing gets done about it. Eventually, it just plain wore me down.

Our liquor commission/council members can take care of these problems administratively. So you are saying that it is acceptable for this to go on? Was alcohol sales the first business activity ever here so it has priority? We don't want any other business or residents downtown then and they should move? There are bars in neighborhoods as well, should people move out of there too? Maybe people have been accepting your thinking. That could explain our decreasing population and property values a lot more than the color of a building.

"The police are very busy and they are not baby sitters." longarm I am really curious what are the police so busy doing @ 2a.m. why would you consider enforcing the law baby sitting... I'm failing to see something here. Also many of those taverns that have been around forever had their owners and families living above or behind them in the same building so there goes your theory of people should not be living in commercial areas, it has been going on as long as there have been commercial areas.

To everyone on this thread, be careful. If you disagree with Kyle he will accuse you of supporting crime. Save your breath. Yet ANOTHER thread that will be allowed to continue while Kyle REFUSES to listen to anyone else's opinion and will personally attack anyone who disagrees with him or HIS views. He's the MAN here. Let him be. Let him write what he wants...

Over-serving, fighting, urinating in public, open containers and muggings are all against the law and that makes them crimes. If people want to say that I should accept these things and allow them to go on, I will say they support crime.

The guy that got mugged last night just came by looking for his wallet and phone in the alley.
I directed him to his tube of blistex.
At least his lips won't be chapped today.
I explained to him that SPD was just too busy with the fight in front of Carbos and then speeding off somewhere else that I wasn't able to provide more information.
I guess we just have too much mayhem happening here to expect that there is much of a chance that you will get your phone or wallet back after being mugged when you get so drunk that you pass out in the alley.
Carbo seemed to have a good night last night, maybe he should go see if they'll pitch in for a new phone.
