Just wondered what the plans now are for our City Park? I noticed this morning that they've been tearing down the old stage behind the monument.......but I haven't heard what the plans are for this though. Just wondering what the future plans are. Also I've wondered if the City has any intentions of ever fixing the old water fountain with the horse trough on the south side of the park? I believe there is some dedication name of Luther on this fountain and hopefully they plan on restoring this. TIA..............M

I saw the City Workers tearing down the old Stage also. Was curious also what They plan on doing there now. Just not curious enough to stop and ask.

I bet they'll tear out the fountain with the horse trough. After their reaction to a few harmless laying hens, I doubt they'd want to keep something that would encourage someone to bring a horse around.

That stage could have been a back-up during busy times. Seems a waste to even take it out!

That ICON of a fountain has been in that park forever, and I myself would like to see it stay there...working or not! I'm not sure who this "Luther" guy is without resorting to looking the info up...but that fountain is a symbol of many days gone by that needs to be preserved, somehow. Is that fountain there not made of brass? LET'S see...take that old "non" working useless fountain out ...then ohhhhhhh I don't know what..15 years? down the line someone somehow will get a BRAIN FART that this WAS there and now needs to be replaced? Kind of like the Kerr Clock on Main Street............................................ Get my point? M

That stage could have been a back-up during busy times. Seems a waste to even take it out! Exactly BS...why remove it is my questioning too as well. As you state ^^^ for backup of other things when the big one was being utilized? I didn't quite get the WHY myself when I noticed that either............. what HARM was that old stage doing, really? That's why I questioned what the City's intentions are now for the void area where it was behind the monument. M

First of all who said anything about tearing out the horse tough? Let's not get rumors started. People are already starting to run with it and nobody said anything about doing that.
Next, the old stage that the city is tearing out had a very poor foundation and was becoming a liability and risk. There were cracks and pieces falling off. Plus the Veterans were not happy with the kids hanging out there and climbing all over the monument.
The plan as I understand it is to tear out the old stage, and re-landscape the area.

WELL thank you HAWK for the explanation then...... I myself had no idea hence why I posted this thread. I am NOT any rumor starter, that's a given, by the way......................... M

I get the fact that yes it was ancient, and as HAWK stated rendered unstable..........I always saw kids running around up on that stage with skateboards, etc...but they are doing that too with the NEW stage. It's just a matter of time that someone will get hurt and will sue the City because of................ I swear we can't have anything in this town that is safe, secure and for the most part RESPECTED! Burns my butt..................... M

Maybe they will keep it; they might think the horseless carriage fad could end soon and troughs would come in handy.
I just hope they don't spend $138,000.00 revamping it with thoughts that it might make affluent people move here.
