When I was a kid there were ducks in that fountain swimming around. They were not afraid of anyone. People would hand feed them bread crumbs through the jail bar fence. Seriously...I don't ever remember seeing any ducks in this fountain? We played in that park all the time having grown up 3 blocks away and having my parents building right across the street. M

Milo Luther an engineer who came to Streator in it's early days at the request of his friend Ralph Plumb. Luther was also a surveyor who supervised the laying of the tracks from Wenona to Streator. (The Stub End Line). He invested heavily in the coal mining industry and helped to bring many of the rail roads to town in the early days. After his death (1910)? his wife donated the bronze fountain to the city in his memory.

that fountain on the Hickory side does have plans of repair.... in the future...The stage is gone as of today....new grass and landscaping will replace it... and yes the park looks like it will be turning a different corner...the park play areas are now smaller... I think they are going to make a Memorial Park out of the city Park but you must ask the head of that City councilman Brozak the fountain in the center is on it's way to be redone... the new stage needs some work already cracks and chip'd concrete from the hoodlums and their bikes.... graphite is endless could we donate some sidewalk chalk for the kids who like to practice the handwriting?...maybe that can channel their creative side.

Soooo..........you're claiming that the new Plumb Stage is damaged by hoodlums?......... Then why in the name of God has there not been any charges presented to the ones that did this, or responsible for the vandalism........when there ARE cameras present there? THIS totally pi$$es me to no end.......we can't have anything nice here that these little jerks think that they can deface public property and do whatever they want, and get away with it! My daughter lil M was holding a dog training class WITH responsible dog owners there in the City Park and when all participating with YES pedigreed licensed dogs.........someone called the SPD, because there were DOGS in the City Park...HELLO.......these dogs were ALL leashed!!! During that time the Park Church was holding a meeting there when they witnessed a young girl being attacked by three guys who literally threw her to the ground! Now, as to what happened with that incident, who knows...of course the SPD was called and immediately responded. Next thing I hear is that the Lions Club had a meeting / picnic at one of the shelters there in which they also incurred big problems with yet again another group that announced to them (Lions) that "This Is OUR PARK"................ I shutter at the thought, and really when I was growing up I spent many hours in that park, and now on any given day I am quite leery of taking my grand daughter there................in which she does walk with me often, and I find that very disheartening that I have to tell her that it's not SAFE! Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!! M
