I'm sorry HEEEYYYyyyy JUDE...but I really fail to see the humor in that ^^^ statement! That ICON of a fountain has been in that park forever, and I myself would like to see it stay there...working or not! I'm not sure who this "Luther" guy is without resorting to looking the info up...but that fountain is a symbol of many days gone by that needs to be preserved, somehow. Is that fountain there not made of brass? LET'S see...take that old "non" working useless fountain out ...then ohhhhhhh I don't know what..15 years? down the line someone somehow will get a BRAIN FART that this WAS there and now needs to be replaced? Kind of like the Kerr Clock on Main Street............................................ Get my point? M M#M I think it might if been donated from the Lutheran church a long time ago.

Nobody has said a word about the fountain being removed except on here. It would most likely cost to much money to repair it. It was donated by a man with the last name Luther. It is a cool thing that I remember using way back in my youth to get a drink.

When I was a kid there were ducks in that fountain swimming around. They were not afraid of anyone. People would hand feed them bread crumbs through the jail bar fence.

OMG! Ducks in downtown Streator! Wouldn't you think they would have written an ordinance about farm animals in the CBD?

there was a drinking fountain as you entered the city park from Monroe street long ago. it was a very large and you could drink from all 4 sides. I remember that from when I was 9 years old and today I am 58. that's the only fountain I recall that you could drink from.

I thought the side with the half bowl part is the horse trough they have been talking about. lol, maybe you drank from all four sides, I'm not sure if everyone did though.

I have a picture from the paper, of my ex holding my middle daughter on his shoulders, and bending over, so they could drink from the fountain.
