Hope no one plans to sit in front of FLIPS tonight. Been told Kyle paid a visit to city hall. Wants to block off area in front of his building. Doesn't want people on his property. Called them the cruise night drunks. Wants own private police presence. Good way to irritate the citizens even more, Mr. Mitchell.

Technically the sidewalk is city owned property which is public. He cannot stop people from standing on the city side walk in front of his place. Only thing he owns is the building itself.
If he doesn't watch it, he'll end up arrested for disorderly conduct before cruise night is over with.

Last year on Cruise Night, perhaps some remember seeing Rooster passed out by the light pole on our corner. There has been some type of problem every year. There has been many fights in the area lately and recent threats of violence. I don't want any trouble on one of the only nights that money can be made. Those that know how to act in public are welcome. If you are a drunk or have some type of problem, please do stay away.

I thought "The good old boys" said everyone had control over the area in front of their storefront. A fine and a service fee, would be levied, against those who did not remove snow and ice. This can be interpreted as the building owner, owns it. What are the thoughts on, this?

So let me get this straight. You own a business, and on one of the busiest nights of the year you want an officer outside your door? Please tell me how this is ANY decent form to conduct business? Man if you keep going this route your not gonna have any customers arrive at your store!

Doesn't matter. Even if the city owns the sidewalks running thru your front yards, they have an ordinance in place that makes the home owners responsible to keep them clear of snow and ice. So no business downtown owns those sidewalks. They are city owned.

Does that mean the city could make an ordinance, that says if you live on Lundy Street, you have to clean the sidewalk and to the center of the street? Maybe, that will be next.

We are responsible to keep the sidewalks clear of snow and ice only. However no one must know about this ordinance,or don't care, cause a lot of sidewalks in the residential areas are still covered in snow. They can ticket anyone who doesn't keep the sidewalks in front of their homes clear of snow and ice.

Man if you keep going this route your not gonna have any customers arrive at your store! We decided to do this for the safety of both our employees and customers. We believe that everyone has the right to safely shop in our store. Recently my employees have had to endure harassment and have expressed concerns for their own safety. I would be a horrible boss if I did not address this concern, so I decided to employ an off duty Sheriff’s officer to be on the property, (outside and inside) to help ensure everyone’s safety. This is also an attempt to protect our property and inventory from sticky fingers on such a busy night. We have learned and adapted from previous cruise nights. Any one is welcome to come to our shop and stand outside and enjoy cruise night. If Mother Nature decides to rain we also welcome everyone to come and enjoy the cover of our awnings. I just want everyone to be safe. Thank you. Chris Mitchell

If you clean off the snow and ice, you are potentially liable if someone does a slip and fall, they can sue you. Just leave it alone and it is an act of God.................

Wow, a citizen actually looking to help keep cruise night peaceable, with his own money, and some want to crucify him?
Kudos Kyle, we may be the opposite politically, but I commend your efforts on this thing.

Where do all these new members come from who seem to have a lot of insight as to what is going on at city hall?

What's wrong with him wanting to protect his property when there will be thousands of people there? He's spending his own money hiring on off duty officer. Big deal. I think it has gotten to a point that no matter what he does, it will be wrong in the eyes of a lot of people. I don't agree on how he has handled a lot of things but people need to quit nit picking and just leave the man alone to do what he feels he needs to do.

Kyle could learn a few lessons about communications from his son. His post was clear and devoid of the hectoring tone of Kyle's posts. I hope he has a record sale's night.

I also hope Kyle does fine, however Kyle, you need to put your words in better perspective, it will not get you anywhere ticking people off.
