I believe Mr. Palm said a 3rd option would be to close the park entirely. What would those that live beyond Marilla Park and need a way out do? Would that then become the responsibility of the township? If the official entrance isnt until after the bridge the city could close off the park and not need to maintain the bridge. There would be cost for fencing though to keep out trespassers. M ost other towns have some sort of parks/recreation districts in them that have a separate taxing body. For $10 a year in property tax per household here in Streator there could be approx. $60,000 raised to pay for upkeep, new/repair equipment, handicapped accessible picnic tables, etc to all the parks in Streator in addition to the money they already contribute for upkeep. Would the citizens be willing to pay a small amount for the upkeep of the parks? I'm PAYING ENOUGH in Taxes already. TAX TAX TAX. I'm sick of being Taxed for everything and getting nothing in return. Well, there's one way other towns do it. And there's the reason streator doesn't. Nothing's free. When you say the city needs to provide all these things, you are saying WE need to provide. It's our tax dollars that provide. So, if you want more, you will pay more.

I guess people will think its ok to charge us more for using the roads and the sidewalks..after all "nothing is free" Some people must think we pay nothing in taxes.. I already pay for the roads, sidewalks, parks, etc from my taxes, why in the he11 should I have to pay more!!!

Agreed. Went in with a group of teens to the city council meeting for The Rec I went up there and spoke. I have 9 kids show up, before the meeting every single one said that they are petrified of speaking in a group setting like that, every single one of them got up there but maybe two and spoke on how The Rec has helped them. To say the least it moved several of the city council meetings and told us great job. We will see if they show up at our opening or not. One person taking a stand doesn't go as far as a GROUP of people taking a stand. Fill up the room, fill up the hall walls, if we all have the same goal we wanna achieve, and the community is coming together to speak their distress of the situation, what option do they have BUT to change. Don't get the response you want the first time do it again the next meeting. They will eventually get tired of having three hour meetings and hearing the same issue over and over again. I've been attending the meetings for awhile and I was in the audience the night that you attended. How you handled it did make a statement. You and the kids were polite and respectful but to the point. The kids telling their stories about how their lives were changed just by having a place to go really made an impact. The council did listen to you and did have some complements. Maybe that is as far as it goes, maybe not. I think the kids should be proud of overcoming their fears to speak up for something they believe in. Exactly. If people don't come together and unite and speak on what they want to change it never will. It showed those kids that I took with me that if you don't agree with something, and you want to see a change, stand up for it. Fight for what you believe in and if you do it in the right matter you will go no where but far. That is how you get places in life. Also if nothing else does come of it it teaches them not to give up, and continue the fight. I wish everything in life could be fixed with bringing it up once, however that is not reality.

i dont thinbk the city will close marilla park. i think they will have a bunch of citizens join together to raise money to save marilla park. soon the citizens will beautify downtown, provide fireworks, mow and pay for the upkeep of marilla park. the city loves that the citizens get charged for services and they dont have to do anything but make sure anderson fields is well taken care of.

a person spraying for weeds put the wrong chemical in the sprayer that was suppose to be for fertilzer only. the guy that does the greens thought the suff in the sprayer was fertilizer that he had left in the sprayer after the last spraying. the sprayer should have been properly labeled as fertlizer only.
