mywebtimes.com/archives/ottawa/display.php?id=436459if they decide to close the bridge to traffic, they will have to reopen the east entrance. cause that is the only entrance to those houses back in there. when you cross the bridge you keep going straight and it will take you back to those homes instead of turning right into the park entrance. another problem exist. they would also have to keep the gates to the park open for those people to be able to drive through to exit out the east entrance. only solution would be is to rebuild the bridge.

might be cheaper in the long run to close that bridge to foot traffic only. then repair the road the city has closed from the northeast corner. back when we were kids that park was open at all hours and the police patrolled regularly during the night. now we stop access and lock everything up in the city at 10pm.

It is too bad the entire area was not taken care of, in the first place.

Does the city even own that property? I was invovled in a conversation about Marilla several weeks ago. During the conversation it came up that the City doesnt own the property, they just Lease it? Any truth to that? If so, if they dont want to keep it up and make necessary repairs, why dont they just let the lease go, or sell the property if they own it.

One of our town fathers had a wife named Marilla and he gave the land to the city to be used as a park.
The truth is the city owns the land and it has to be used as a park.

Fawcett Plumb, nephew of Col. Ralph (not a son) gave the park to the city about 1919. He gave the land, but not any money to help clean it up. The park was named after Col. Ralph's wife. I don't know/remember if the land can be sold. Joanie

there is usually a clause in most gifts of land that it has to be used for specific purpose and not sold.

That park is part of Streator history, due to this family giving it to this town to be used as a park. It should be taken care of. And be utilized by the citizen of this town properly. It has an area to play baseball/softball/kickball. have picnics with friends and family. nice little area to go fishing. To bad we can not use the area for tent camping though.

I dunno. They just dropped a bunch of money into a septic project there. I don't think closing the park is at the top of the list. Personally, I think that they will figure out something.
