the city would have to keep that road up instead of letting wash away. that road was useable back when i was young.

Yes, they would have to keep it up. Every time it rains, they will have to. The water ran down the road, like falls, washing it out. It's easy to say, throw some gravel down...but, if that's the way they go, it will be in constant need of grading, and more gravel. Then everyone will complain about the tax increase to pay for this.
It's easy to sit back and complain about things, without exploring the reasoning.

if they make the grade so it drains away from that hill there wouldnt be all that water running down the hill. the road is sloped so all the rain is forced down that hill right now.

Doesn't the Road Commissioner live right across from that Pond?

It's almost beyond silly to think in this century there isn't a way to engineer a road to combat erosion. lets not object just for the sake of it.

it can be done so the water would drain away from the hill. the city council just needs to take some interest in this project like they did on anderson fields. they didnt have any objections spending a million dollars out there did they?

Let's b clear. I'm not against the bridge or the road. Someone made the comment that the amounts seemed a lot. I was just pointing out that its more than just throwing some gravel down.

Aren't there like 3 or so houses in the NW corner of the park? . yeah there are a few homes back up in there that are probably worth around $500,000. been back there once and they look like a small mansion type homes. and the only way in or out of that area is accessed from the bridge. the state closes this park, they will have to build a new road to those homes for access. cause the west entrance to the park where the bridge is,is the only access in or out to those homes. probably no one even knows those homes exists back in there due to the private drive sign posted by the west entrance to the park as soon as you pull into the park gate entrance.

Considering my township just dumped 2 foot of gravel on a one mile section of road last year, then tarred and chipped it this year...From what I was told it cost,we could assume the township uses different construction crews than the city!!!!!

assuming we're talking about the same project, the commissioner did a ton of the work himself.
maybe some of the city guys will do the same thing and dedicate their extra time.
Eh...maybe not. ;D

it use to be the city workers did all the work on that road. the city has the manpower and equipment to grade it and spread gravel.

I know I'll get bashed for posting this but I'm saying it anyway. All you people who think Streator is so great need to start getting out more.
I have been traveling alot for work lately. Lots of small towns. Mostly towns that have populations of around 2k people. Why do all of these towns have pools? Why do all of these towns have nice parks with playground equipment, tons of flowers planted etc.? One town in Iowa that I have been working in has a walmart, lots of places to eat. And no, it's not next to an interstate. It's 10 miles from the interstate in one direction and 10 miles from a highway in the other direction. It's pretty much stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
Streator reminds me of the Catholic Church..they want, want, want from their members but give nothing in return.
Streator, in my opinion is just plain depressing. I am not from here..moved here almost 7 years ago. I can tell a HUGE difference in those 7 years and it's not a good difference. Unless something is done, and done quickly, this town is not going to make it.
And before somebody says..."If you don't like it, then why don't you move"...I plan on it. I am not on some quest to just bash Streator...I would love to see it become a nice small town...but in reality, it's just not.
People need to get their heads out of the sand and look at the big picture. I realize that Streator is hometown to a lot of you folks on here but you need to take the blinders off. Look at it from an outside view. It's not a nice view to look at.
