I think it would be a great location to put in a DOG PARK and a FRISBEE GOLF COURSE. Plenty of space. My friend said he saw a couple people throwing at a portable chain thing down there. Sounds like fun, we are thinking of taking it up. He says Pontiac, Ottawa, and IVCC all have courses. Marilla would probably make for a great course with all of the huge trees. I sure hope they can keep it open, would be a sad waste if it couldn't be enjoyed. Lots of folks there on the weekends.

I've thought the city should have a dog park for some time. That'd be very beneficial.

MP, is/was so so nice. Gosh, it was an all seasons park. Sledding and ice skating in winter, fishing, picnics in spring summer, beautiful trees iin fall. We used to ride our bikes down there, from Grant Street.

it seems the park get smaller all the time. the top section has been overtaken with weeds and the pond area has so much sediment build up that there isnt much water for the fish.

I think it would make a perfect place for families, put in some new playground equipment, one of those water play parks like Ottawa has, the playground out there is ancient.
It just irritates me to no end that this town has become a retirement community, why don't we just knock down all the building downtown, build a retirement community and be done with it. I came back 20 years ago to raise my kids here and guess what 2 of them are adults, 1 was lucky enough to find a job she loves and is here the other one is leaving town next week, I can only expect the last 2 will pack up and run as soon as they finish high school.
Don't get me wrong I love living here, I love that you can go to the store and see people you know, how we all come together when needed, that you can say hello to a stranger and they don't think you want to mug them, these are great things in a community, but you have to have people here to have a community and at the rate we are going then next generation will be leaving and Streator will slowly die.

See, this is the problem............."Palm estimated the cost to replace the bridge would be $500,000," ( from the link ABOVE for you link Nazis ) If it costs anywhere close to a half million to replace that glorified footbridge, I want to know where the paper bags of bribes went.

Aren't there like 3 or so houses in the NW corner of the park? If there is wouldn't they have to have a road to make their homes accessible? If the city idiots close the bridge and don't redo the entrance to the NE how are these residents supposed to access their homes?
The City Council keeps taking and taking and we get absolutely nothing in return, no recreation for kids, no jobs, sh!t streets.

That does seem a bit excessive. But then again, I have never priced a bridge. Also, is the price of $300,000 on target for the alternate entrance? Would it have to be blacktop? a good gravel road until there were funds to blacktop could be an option...

i was thinking the same thing FZ. since the city has a road grader and the manpower i cant figure how it would cost $300,000.00 to make a gravel road down to the parking lot.

Hmm...Idk how old any of you are. Does anyone remember the road that came in from the east? Remember how it washed away every time it rained? The water running down the hill, making big gullies? Just wondering if maybe all those retirees, who know what happens to that road, are taking that into consideration.
