It's something that needs to be done. Residents pay for upkeep that those just outside use just as much. Roads, parks etc. plus they will get faster police and fire.

the price might seem small right now to the ones wanting to hook up to the city sewers and water but what comes later in the tax bill might cause a heart attack lol.

You have to love it, just wait long enough and the SOBs will try it yet again. They got their asses handed to them the last time they tried to force the issue............

They want homerule. they need a minimum of 25,000 people to automatically become a home rule city without voter approval.

The city needs to quit paying their help so much money, building a golf course lodge and frivolous spending habits. Send this clown back overseas where he belongs. He was let go once and cannot control the spending. What kind of excuses are those that he says to justify annexation? For the most part, those sewers do not flow into the vermillion river, south of town, the word "mutual" aid is a two way reciprocating act, and how many border residents use the drug infested parks? Livingston county would love for the "good old boy and girl" gang to absorb "Smith Douglas Lakes."

I think you finally hit the nail on the head with your statement rocket. a long with the larger tax base and the ability to enact home rule without a voters approval the income could actually increase greatly to the city of Streator.

They tell people to leave if they don't like the way the City is run. They tell people to move outside of City limits if you want freedoms like being able to have a few laying hens. Then after they have driven so many people out with their overly restrictive ways and lack of positive results, that they don't have enough tax revenue, they still try to force their control over them.
Gee, they feel that the people who they want to annex are illegally dumping sewage, do they? Should we just say shame on all those illegal people? Why don't they take action against those people and provide their "proof" that they are illegally dumping sewage, instead of having it printed in the newspaper that many of them are illegal? Do those people deserve Due Process, or do our City leaders want us to just see them all as criminals without having to prove anything?
If they are poisoning our groundwater, why has our City been allowing this go on without protecting the citizens of Streator? Aren't their laws for these types of things? A County government or an Environmental Protection Agency that governs these things and makes sure that homes have proper sewage systems? Have these agencies been ignoring the pleas from our City leaders to get this corrected? Why haven't they filed legal action against these offenders?
I see the sewage issue as nothing more than a ploy to try to force what they know people don't want to get their money grab. Unless the people want it, leave them alone.
Along with the annexing will come the requirement of more services, won't it? How many more police, fire, public works people will be hired, or will it just be spread out so that we all get less services? Does anyone really believe that it would result in them actually lowering the tax rate?
