I was giving him science diet, I don't know what the father or daughter where feeding him before hand. SD adult ? senior? weight management? He cant be on a SD food like regular adult, adult active,or high energy ..they are high calorie foods for dogs with normal metabolism.. He probably needs to be on SD weight loss food.. I have an old pointer with a high metabolism and he cant be on regular or senoir blend dog foods because he doesnt keep the weight on.. He has to be on a high calorie performance blend dry food with canned mixed in so he will eat and pack on weight.. My dog has always suffered seperation anxiety, doesnt like being caged and the fear of storms.. I can tell you plenty of stories of houses being trashed the last 16 years ;D you sound like the PERFECT owner for Shiloh!!!!!!

I think its pretty unfair to put the blame on E&C's mom here. She didnt take over ownership of the dog. She offered to foster the dog for the previous owner until they could place him somewhere. I certainly dont blame E&C's mom for wanting the dog out of her house, she didnt know what shape the dog was in or the effects a new home would have on the dogs demeanor. I would not keep a dog in my house if it was going to the bathroom on my toddlers things. That is unsanitary and unfair to the toddler. I think E&C gave the foster a fair shake and is being honest in admitting that she provide what is best for the dog. She said on the first page she cant even get the dog up and down her stairs. Besides that E&C's mom is pregnant and probably shouldnt be lifting 100+lb dog. Try to keep things in perspective. Im sure she feels horrible about not being able to help the way she thought she would. I admit..it was very nice of her to try to foster him..truely I do.. but she could have started the thread in a nicer manner.. so it didnt work out..she tryed..Im sure Action appreciated the effort.. but to come on here & start blowing up at Action, was not nice.. apparently she didnt have enough time to foster him.. it is time consuming..

Yes, I think being pregnant and having a toddler and then trying to undertake a fostering would have been too much for anyone to handle.

We had to get rid of a beagle pup a couple years ago because it was to much on the older dog.. Pup always wanted to play and the old dog just wants to lay around and live it his years out.. Cant come down on Mommy for trying..she gave it a go and tried to help..sometimes things just dont work out

i carefully measure every cup of food i feed Rover everyday had to adjust her to one meal a day to keep her weight in check takes a little extra time and effort, but she seems pretty healthy taking proper care of a dog usually doesn't require a lot of hard work, but you have to pay attention

some cultures eat dog, he has tons of meat on him.
just kidding, i think with the proper help he could lose weight. buy a big kennel for when you afrent around, to help him learn not to destroy things.

Stars.....do you half read posts? I think you should go back and read. The ORIGINAL owner......or do you just wanna skip over the posts where I did indeed clarify that? Action is NOT the ORIGINAL owner. I am NOT the ORIGINAL owner. Action and myself are NOT to BLAME for this dogs weight problem. However Stars, you are more than free to get a hold of action to adopt the dog if you think you could do a better job. And yes, it's unfair for a dog to have to be put asleep because his ORIGINAL owner didn't see weight gain as an issue. Action and myself are beyond ways to help him lose weight at this point. Neither of us even know if it can be fixable. 7 years of bad habits doesn't go away very easily. I highly recommend you going to see this dog, and try to lift, or walk with this dog before you have your mind set.
