I have the same thing Vern does. I say so. How do you know he is correct. Ask him about BOCA codes and sprinklers .

I don't see much of anything going on at north point. even the tractor supply company has reversed its decision to locate out there. they did have a job opening placed on line for a new store at north point as of last month but it was pulled. Are you sure about that? Its the opposite of what I've been told... We will have to see but I've been hearing that the Kmart lease is d@mn near up and TSC is STILL moving in... New mall managers Opening up the theater out there. I did happen to Google Tractor Supply Co. + Streator and a couple of links for help wanted ads came up from 6 days ago www.careerarc.com/job-search/tractor-supply-company-jobs-in-streator-il.htmlwww.linkedin.com/jobs/view/145524078I dont know if those mean anything... The shopping center leases I've seen and signed have required that the businesses maintain regular operating hours or they are in default. It doesn't make much sense to me that anyone would allow a ready to go tenant be turned away so that someone else can cause their shopping center to be dead. If their lease is "d@mn near up", and TSC were planning to move in, wouldn't they be applying for their Special Use Permit to use the parking lot, since their previously obtained permit would be expired? Has our City not allowed the "developer" to put up a sign to get prospective tenants excited about their property tax funded redevelopment project? The Shopping Center that our Kentucky theatre is in the parking lot of has a huge "Power Shopping Center Redevelopment" sign out front. "New mall managers"? Are you talking about Greystone, the "$120 million/year and growing developer" that needed taxpayer funds to help them purchase the theatre property? (or maybe to pay off some of their $174,000.00 tax liability for their failed bar development project?) I haven't seen any work vehicles out there, have you? There is fire sprinkler piping needing to be repaired, much all of the drywall needs to be replaced, drapes hung, screen frames built, speakers installed, seats installed, floor coverings replaced, etc., etc., etc. Have they started any of that work yet or are they waiting for the community to buy them six digital projectors? BTW, my employer was not looking for any tax handouts at the Majestic or Northpoint Cinemas. He upgraded all of his theatres to digital and now very comfortable seating, by paying for it himself, not asking for any public help, and still keeps his box office and concession prices considerably lower than most of the bigger chains. So, who/what is the source of your information about what's going on at Northpoint?

I have the same thing Vern does. I say so. How do you know he is correct. Ask him about BOCA codes and sprinklers . I don't think so. Vern has a well known very direct connection with the details of his attempted investment in our community and being "screwed" by our City losing hundreds of thousands of dollars. You have made nothing but very generalized discrediting statements and name calling under an anonymous online screen name. What is your direct involvement in the details of the situation? Some of what Vern has told me has also been confirmed by news articles and other information readily available, links have been provided. What is it that you think you have provided to back up any of your claims? Then there is the history of how our City treats people and businesses. I got a call from my son's store when there was an old building official there insisting that we were getting a citation for not getting a permit for a four foot fence. I got on the phone with the old building official and explained that UBC doers not require a permit for a four foot fence. He said that it does if it is on a roof. I said that the code does not say that, and he insisted that it does. I told him to leave the citation and I would fight it when I got back to Streator, indicating that I would take it to court if needed. Only then did he say that I should see the City Engineer when I got back to town. I invited the City Engineer onto my roof to inspect the fence and he confirmed that a four foot fence does not require a permit even if it is on a roof. Could that have been the same old building official that approved Vern's plans, before the City jumped into bed with the other theatre company handing them lots of our tax money? Was the old building official who falsely insisted that a four foot fence on a roof requires a permit a liar, did he not remember correctly or does he just not know our codes? I just don't think that tax payers here should employ any officials who don't do their job properly and treat people like that. Why would I ask Vern anything about fire sprinklers? Didn't you call him a liar based on what I posted, which didn't even directly mention fire sprinklers? Did the old building official who approved Vern's plans require fire sprinklers or even know BOCA codes any better than UBC? Shouldn't you first make your claim about fire sprinklers, so that I know specifically what it is you want to try to hear from Vern in your attempts to try to discredit him?

I don't want to hear from Vern or you. Where is this group therapy session for unsuccessful business owners who failed? Can I join? Imagine the fun of listening to you and Vern blaming the city. I better wear a diaper in case I pee myself from laughter.

For years on here we argued if/when Walmart was building or if Taco Bell was coming back or if this or that was coming to town....
Everyone seems to know all the answers yet know nothing at all.....
Like I stated earlier....we will have to wait and see
I did notice quite a few bike riders in town over the weekend for the bike race out at Marilla Park...They were spending their hard earned money at our Walmart, gas stations, restaurants and at a local pub(wonder if any peed in the streets or stopped in for some 2nd hand clothing?)...It didnt seem like any of them had an ounce of fear venturing into our fine city..When I talked to a couple of them at the gas station they liked our town and the race at Marilla and will definitely be coming back.
Kudos goes to Bob Sandy and his volunteers for bringing this event to Streator...I've been told this was the 2nd race held at Marilla in the last few weeks.. I know its not alot of tax revenue coming in but just like at home...every penny counts
Surprising to ME(maybe not to others) are the amount of people who come into our town without us even knowing it to play Frisbee golf at Marilla (and they also spend their money here too)..I've talked to people from all over the state down there and they say its 1 of the best Frisbee courses around...who knew?
An organization/group(Relay Team,4th of July, etc) should really look into having a Frisbee golf tournament out there....it could really help their cause..

But, people still constantly say theres nothing to do. Its not that theres nothing to do, its that people need more and more stimulation to keep them satisfied. Bigger, better, faster, flashier...

Driving by the Canale place. Those people are sure working their hides off with those windows. Nice improvement. I saw the same thing yesterday. They are really making some major renovations to our old City Hall. (I wish they would put to cupolo/steeple back on.) I wish the new business well. It has a great location.

Especially with the success of The Silver Fox right across the street. There's opportunity in this town for sure and it's wonderful to see those willing to invest the amount of time and money to do an older building right. I'm also excited to see what happens with the old Murray building. Based on the gorgeous renovation done on The Silver Fox by the same owners, I could imagine how excited the local nearby merchants are for this added benefit to their block. You Streatorites with vision, drive and the determination to make things happen, keep it up! We're behind you!

This week we worked up to walking to town and then headed down main on one side, and up the other. Enjoyed a detour through the pocket park on Monroe before heading home. We slowed our pace on main to take in some window shopping and observe some of the architectural details.
