All it takes is a drive downtown to see all projects and improvements underway. Looks like there are a lot of people investing in our town!

Very true. I have not seen so many businesses on Main St since I moved back here. Plus a lot of new dining places all over town.

What are you seeing? I notice a lot of junk stores & empty buildings. I did see the city trucks in front of the crummy cupboard .

Open your eyes genius. Besides two of the biggest buildings in all of downtown being renovated there are lots of smaller projects happening too. You just keep wallowing in your own filth slicker and leave progress to people with a full set of marbles.

Worth(less), don't get caught driving while you are hallucinating, about what you call progress. Empty stores , empty lots, junk stores, & a rock. Not progress.

Things don't happen overnight. And positive attitudes will encourage more to take the chance.
My cousin and her husband moved here from Peoria to re-open the bowling alley and restaurant. They just bought a house here, and both of their daughters moved here. I'm glad they didn't read the negativity here, and let that sway them.

Her sister also moved here from Orlando. Not everyone is against Streator.

Denying reality doesn't make it go away. Keep your head up yourbuttand pretend it's the world. I don't care. The best thing about your stupidity and negativity is that it's powerless. Streator won't miss you when you're gone. On the other hand, it's not too late to change your life. If you're really this miserable there is help out there. Just ask.

Besides two of the biggest buildings in all of downtown being renovated there are lots of smaller projects happening too. Renovated? Did our City leaders interpret the work being done as being "renovations"? Are they adding fire sprinklers and meeting all ADA requirements, as required for "renovations"? I am very happy that some people are investing into our community. Although I don't think I would describe it as bustling, it is good to see some improvements. We have many old buildings that have survived a long time without fire sprinklers. Many Cities do not require the addition of fire sprinklers unless major changes and work are being done, but different people and different Cities can interpret the word "renovation" differently. Perhaps if our City were more upfront and open with their interpretation of the proper requirements to open businesses, we would have even more.

Worst, maybe you are thinking of ottawa or lasalle Peru when you observed bustling. The 72% of deadbeat population of sh•t town have no money to support any new business. Section 8 and Salvation Army , will thrive.

Section 8 and Salvation Army , will thrive. You must be part of that 72% of deadbeats. And your are jealous of others that are able to afford to support our local businesses. And as far as Salvation Army, even for the people that can afford to go to places like Wal Mart happen to shop at thrift stores, like Salvation Army and Good Will for their treasures.

Does anyone wonder why its so easy to be negative, and so difficult to be positive?
There are good things happening in Streator. Get on the bandwagon.

Perhaps they actually took the time to read the ordinances and complied with real issues, not protested imagined ones. Just a thought.

You don't deny that if someone at City Hall decides that the work being done is a "renovation", then fire sprinklers would be required, do you? There isn't a conclusive definition of the word "renovation" in the codes though is there? Why even take the chance of spending a lot of money and then finding out that the City will require them, when we employ people who should be able to interpret the codes and commit to their requirements? Don't you think that if our City were more open and upfront with the proper requirements to open a business here that we might have more? Shouldn't prospective businesses be able to go to our City Hall and be given the proper requirements without first being required to purchase a building? Keeping their interpretations of the requirements to open a business secret until after people have "a deed in hand" could be enough to make some believe that the hearsay of a brown paper bag system is actually true and that although there may be some different faces nothing has really changed, don't you think?
