And I said nothing about supporting city leaders, Cryin'Kyle. Learn to read. I support people who don't cry and just get things done. I support the people investing in Streator. They deserve some credit.

Hold on Kyle, You know I usually refrain from engaging you in conversation because it's constantly your same old story, but here goes. I know you would like to know the City's requirements before you, or your boss plunks down money for the Theater. I think any one would. The codes are written intentionally a little vaguely to allow the City a little discretion that they can apply on a case by case basis. You really can't BLAME them there. Don't you think your constantly combative remarks and even personal attacks have maybe worn out your welcome with the city officials? Do you really think that they would 'cut you any slack'? From what little I gather, from what I have read here, there are a lot of bridges that were left burning and you are the guy holding the torch. You reap what you sow. I am not saying our City or officials are perfect, but your criticism is so far over the top. It's been highly personal, it's just not nice, it's not fair, and it's highly counter-productive. I just think there are more diplomatic ways to go about something that are more productive. Some people have a way of calling you an A$$hole and you can both smile about it. I am not saying I am blessed with a silver tongue, not at all, I am too crass and opinionated and not afraid to share it. But you Kyle, no way will you catch any kind of break. I hope you do business differently in other citys, but I think Streator is on to you. I moved my family across the country to Streator specifically to invest a lot of hard work and money into opening a long time boarded over unique movie palace. Before even getting it open, I had people tell me that they would not go to downtown Streator because of the negative impacts there. After opening, I saw my customers' reactions as they brought their children out of a show to see a brutal street brawl ending with one person laying unconscious in a pool of blood and the lack of enforcement when there was a witness wanting badly to file a complaint when a man exposed his peni s in the middle of the street to children. When I went to my City Council members to try to work WITH them and ask for better enforcement of our laws, the City very publicly and falsely declared my family illegal and began ratting me out to the law breakers, telling them that I was complaining about their violations, giving them my name and telling them where I live. I think that is over the top, highly personal, not nice, not fair, and highly counter-productive. As has been pointed out before, my simply asking for better enforcement of our laws seemed to have already tickled the nose of our City (the dragon in your analogy), now that they have burnt so many and continue burning bridges, you want this courtroom to believe that I am holding a torch and that somehow makes me responsible for their burnt bridges? Didn't you hear, I took dog's advice and was trying to work WITH them again? They seem to be burning all the bridges to the movie theatres here though. Thank you for pointing out to every one else what I see too. They seemed to have used their power of being able to refuse to commit to the proper requirements to open a business here to try to punish me because they don't like what I have to say about the jobs that they do "for the people". You seem to point out very nicely that they do not honor Free Speech at all. Another strong indication that they have their own version of our Constitution that does not allow for the rights of citizens.

If your theater is disgusting, you clean it. As the owner or manager you clean it. Costs you nothing. Just clean it! But if you want to make excuses you can do that all day. Which you have. If you're above cleaning your own place I thank God you and your loser owner didn't figure out how to invest here. We don't need more loser building owners. Thankfully there are people like Southside busting their tails to make good things happen. So many positives here. Just a couple negatives. All in all we are pretty lucky. When I had my own theatre businesses, I did clean them. When I work for someone else, since they provide my pay, I do as they tell me to do. When my boss sends me to go open theatres in other communities, I can't very well clean the Roxy too. You can call it making excuses, but it is just the reality. Yes, I agree that we don't need any more loser building owners here. Too many have already lost too much by investing in buildings here, don't you agree? First Farmers Bank and Trust seems to be losing a lot on their investment into the Majestic, don't you agree? Didn't many Streator people lose their portion of the $130,000.00 investments to save the place too? I also agree that there are many positives. However there seems to be a huge negative of a lack of proper enforcement of our laws creating excessive and "increasing" bar violence incidents contributing to the poor image that continually hurts our community and causes us to be the butt of many peoples' jokes. Our continually declining population and property values doesn't seem very lucky to me.

I'm not crying, just talking about what happens here, what our City leaders do, and the results they provide for the community. Others seem to be crying just because they don't like what I have to say though. I get things done. I moved here to open a long time boarded over unique movie palace and got that done. I even made pigs fly here. I am also still investing in Streator as well. It's not about me though. It is about our community, our continual decline in population and property values, and they way our City does things and treats people.

I keep picturing the City of Streator and all of it's sane inhabitants gathered together and singing Marie Osmond's 70's hit "Cry, Baby, Cry".
"Cry, baby, cry. Only tears can mend your heart. Cry, baby, cry. It's best that we both part."
Hey Cuckoo Kyle! Speaking on behalf of my little circle of citizens, I'm sorry, but we must break up with you. It's over. It's not us. It's YOU. Sometimes, relationships just don't work out. I'm sorry if you are bitter about it. I urge you to move on. You'll find another town to try and hoodwink into thinking you are their savior. Let's keep this breakup civilized. Shall we?

All it takes is a drive downtown to see all projects and improvements underway. Looks like there are a lot of people investing in our town! Thank you for this positive thread. It is nice to see the activity in our town.

Whoa southie, you mean you opened up a boarded up building and turned it into a viable business despite having a bar across the street? Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so.

I have been to that bar. No different than any neighborhood bar. My neighborhood bar is the Broadway Tap, but I haven't been there in a long time. I guess I'm just not into bars? They serve GREAT tenderloins on Tuesdays.

And because of that you're now called Cryin' Lyin' Kyle Mitchell. Congrats. To keep this thread on a positive note, I think Streator is really turning a corner. I have seen a lot of positive in the last six months and have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more.

Whoa southie, you mean you opened up a boarded up building and turned it into a viable business despite having a bar across the street? Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so. Yes, I am very confident that there are some responsible liquor license holders in our community. Just because some license holders' establishments seem to just be allowed to have excessive and "increasing" bar violence incidents around their businesses with very few consequences, doesn't mean that there is such a disregard for the poor image that these incidents substantiate and perpetuate for our community at all liquor establishments. The newspaper reported that our Mayor/Liquor Commissioner was managing a list of prospective liquor license holders so long that they had to start charging a fee to be put on the list. Since they don't seem to be able to come up with the proper resources to be able to properly enforce our laws on these issues, why not just give others a chance to show that they are willing to be more responsible community members and not keep contributing to that poor image that hurts our community and caused us to be laughed at by so many others?

Sometimes, relationships just don't work out. I'm sorry if you are bitter about it. I urge you to move on. You'll find another town to try and hoodwink into thinking you are their savior. Let's keep this breakup civilized. Shall we? Yes, from the number of empty buildings and our declining population and property values, it seems that our City leaders have been initiating many break ups. I'm not crying though just talking about what happens here, what our leaders do, and the results they provide. Civilized? As in calling me "Cuckoo" and saying "Cry Baby Cry" to me because you have no valid points to debate against what I have to say? Civilized? As in following the rules of our society? As in allowing people their Constitutional Rights to face claims and present their Accessory Use ordinance as proof that a family was not at all illegal before they handed down their sentence of discrediting business owners' character to the public with their "illegal" declarations to be on the cover of the newspaper? Civilized as in not allowing the community an opportunity to have a unique movie palace that they donated $130,000.00 to save just because our leaders want to try to charge me for what I have to say because they don't like to hear it? It seems to me that it is our City leaders and their supporters who are crying, because they don't like to hear what one insignificant person invested in Streator has to say. Just after our new Fire Chief/Building Official (whose job I believe is to interpret our Fire related Building Codes) indicated that it should be no problem to provide me the City's fire sprinkler requirements in a couple of days, our City Manager called me saying over and over again that the City of Streator is not willing to commit to their requirements to reopen the Majestic until we had "a deed in hand". When I accepted that he was not going to budge from that I simply asked him to put it in writing that the City would not commit to providing their requirements to actually use the building until we purchase it, he really started crying hard, throwing a little fit, asking "why are you doing this to me?", and then ended up hanging up on me. He didn't seem to be able to maintain an adult conversation without crying and kept our community from having the opportunity to have the movie palace that they donated so much to try to save. They seem to prefer having it boarded over. Then they don't have to worry about as many complaints from good family people trying to see a show but not wanting to be around the excessive, and as our Mayor says "increasing" bar violence incident calls. I doubt that you or some others will go to the Roxy to see a show. However, if anyone else does, if you look in the front of cinema 2 you will see a few hundred extra of the high back rockers that certainly would have been very nice in the Majestic's balcony. Savior? What are you talking about? I am just an insignificant person who has invested in our community and stands up for what I believe is right. Attacking my family, violating Constitutional Rights, keeping the community from the opportunity of having a movie theatre because they don't like what an employee of the business has to say about the job he pays them to do, and many other things that they do are just not right. You, our City leaders, and any of their other supporters can just keep on crying about what I have to say, or they could stop crying and just start treating people better, don't you think?

The people who bought the Masonic Hall are looking into opening up the old Murray Building where the Bank used to be. I grew up with it across the street next to the Plumb. That whole complex of Opera House, Bank & Offices up stairs was built & used by the Plumb family. There is a back door to the beauty shop there now that used to go to the lobby of the Opera House aka Plumb Theator

No. But I do remember that a guy sold tamales from a push cart downtown one summer in the 60's.
