I just checked my freezer and found a package of Stouffers creamed and chipped beef in it. I don't eat it lol. What a coincidence. I just returned from the store and bought some Stouffers' creamed chipped beef. I looked around for the Jimmy Dean brand, but they didn't have any. I told my wife and she nearly gagged. I think I will make her some Greek pasta for dinner. If she goes too long without a pasta fix, she becomes hard to live with. We are going to be Gainesville tomorrow and I am going to hit the Publix store there. I am thinking about Osso Buco, and maybe some baby back ribs. If had my electric knife, I would buy a roast beef. I found a recipe on the Internet for slow cooking a roast beef. It comes out close to a prime rib taste.

Mom is slow cooking chicken pieces for a chix & veggie soup. I could eat chicken everyday. There are so many ways of cooking it. I rarely eat fried chicken, except when I am in Streator. The chicken in town is the best I have ever eaten. One of my favorite places for eating chicken in Streator is the VFW's chicken and beer night. I always run into people I have known over the years. There may be better chicken in other places, but I have found it to be the best place in town for meeting people I haven't seen in years. I admit, that I have never been to Rip's in Ladd.

We ate sos also, ate the age of (5) very good cheap meal, been awhile though, sounds like I'll be eating some soon lol. Check to see if any of the local stores stock Jimmy Dean's Creamed Chip Beef. When we are at home, I stock up on it. I can't find it in any of the stores near us in Florida. My wife, who is a stickler for reading sodium content in foods, "approves" it. I have made SOS on my own a number of time, but the result is not as good as Dean's product. Never knew you could buy it made already roman, I'll have to check it out, thank you.

It's settled then...add plenty of chipped beef, spam, and b & g to the emergency food list.

This is probably the type of SOS Super has eaten.

I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Greek food. At one time, you would have to go to Chicago to get Greek food. Today, Greek food (at least gyros ) is available outside of urban areas. Up until recent years, Chicago had the third largest urban Greek population in the world. As a consequence, Chicago has a large number of Greek restaurants. There is a several block strip on Halsted, west of the Loop, called Greek Town. It is not really much of a “Greek Town,” for few people live there. Instead, the area is full of Greek restaurants and a few businesses. The real Greek Town is much farther north along Lawrence Avenue.
My first forays into Greek food were the standards: Avgolemno, Mousska, Dolmates, Pastitsio, Gyros, Spanakopita, etc. Over the years, I progressed to such dishes as: Taramosalta, Bacalhau, Squid and Octopus. Once a year, a number of my partners would take me to Greek Town where we would spend the afternoon eating and drinking.
Eating in Greece was an adventure. In many places, the restaurant staff did not speak English. You would place an order by walking into the kitchen and pointing at what you wanted to eat. Our daughters invariably ordered Dolmates and Pastitsio. The first time we went to Greece, a bottle of Demestica wine cost 99 cents. When we got home, the same wine was selling at seven dollars a bottle.
My favorite Greek dish is Greek Chicken: lemon, oregano, and olive oil.

I am, also, a fan of Greek food, & your favorite dish is one I have loved for as long as I can remember. As a small child it was my favorite, & I would regularly ask my father to make "lemon chicken". We would love to gain more experience with good Greek food, & may one day make the effort. I must go back and tell anyone interested in SOS. The Country Cupboard serves it daily on the breakfast menu, but breakfast is served all day. My husband has an uncle ( air force-Korea) who would drive over from Dwight to enjoy it at Country Cupboard:-)

I will throw some thighs into a plastic bag with lemon juice, black pepper, olive oil and oregano. After a few hours, it is ready for the grill. In re SOS, I have been unable to get the creamy taste that Jimmy Dean does. Although there are many places which provide so-called Greek food, some are a joke. My favorites are the ones where the waiter says "Guy-rows' for Gyros.

Some years back, we watched a food show that featured Chicago-land foods, and gyros was one researched and presented. My understanding following that presentation was that "gyros" as I know it, was a Chicago invention.
