It's a great time when your family and loved ones are around too share a meal and time together.
I like Easter and Christmas the kids and my parents are over early so I and my sweetie cook a big Breakfast usually eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and sausage gravy and my sweetie makes her home made coffee cake. I love that coffee cake she makes.
Lunch around 1 PM we usually do chicken (Moo once in awhile ) on the grill with all the trimmings and my sweeties home made cherry and a apple pie and a lemon Morang pie.
It is a shame we all usually only take the holidays to get together with everyone's lives always on the go like they are.

I'm the youngest of six kids. And growing up, the only time I really saw my siblings were on the holidays for the ones that live in Illinois. After my mother pasted away 15 years ago, the siblings had no reason to get together for the holidays, even though my father was still living. My father would go to one of the sister and only to her place for the holidays. And he is gone now, and none of us have an interest to see each other. Yes kinda sad but that is how it is for us. IT is just my husband and our kids. Mom made the meat, and the rest would bring dish to share. Then after eating, the cards would come out.

My wife came from a large family and they would ALL get together at great-grandma's house for holiday gathering. When she died, that went away. Too bad. I really enjoyed it. Same thing happened to my family when my grandma's generation died. They would get together for Thanksgiving.

DDave you sure are right about back in that generation everyone getting together like that all the Aunts and Uncles and cousins. The fun part was after lunch the guy's would play poker all afternoon and even the neighbors would come over and eat and play cards. Then time for supper and after that right back to the card playing. It was a good time.
The other thing is in my family it didn't take a holiday or Birthday for this to go on it was a family gathering like that every Sunday after church. I SURE MISS IT
