I was just reading the web times site and entered in the drawing for a new 10 inch tablet being given away by OSF hospital in Ottawa. after I entered my entry there was a poll popping up concerning if an OSF hospital closed in your town would you drive to the next nearest OSF hospital for treatment. sounds kind of weird seeing they are trying to purchase St. Mary's hospital. did anyone else enter for the drawing and get this same poll question? where is the drawing on the website? I wanna enter!

I am thinking about switching doctors to Ottawa, due to the local hospital situation. I already go to Bloomington to see a diabetic doctor. I go over Ottawa to see a Kidney doctor.

I have been going to the Ottawa hospital for 25 years. my doctor in Streator retired so it was hard to find one here in town at that time so I found one in Ottawa. so far I am very happy with him and the hospital.

By Chance, do you go to Dr. Love? I am thinking about seeing if he is taking new patients.

I was a patient of his for 2 years. he is a very nice doctor but takes a lot of vacations since he is a avid hunter and fisherman. he was taking new patients the last I knew.

I saw an article from the Times Press. I'm not sure if anyone else read it or not. My question is, Is St. Mary's closing for sure or not? I get the impression that whether or not HSHS sells the hospital to OSF that the hospital is going to close either way. So what is the purpose of selling then? I may have the wrong impression though.

what article are your referencing, what does it say? EDIT: Here in link to most recent article. www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/official-osf-would-close-st-mary-s/article_9e51e4ad-08c0-554a-838d-65b06f995d24.htmlIt doesn't say anything about HSHS closing it. And it doesn't confirm that if OSF buys it they will close it. It is only the city managers concern that OSF will close it if they buy it. "I think OSF is planning on closing the Streator hospital because they believe they can get away with it by controlling all the surrounding health care facilities," Wrighton said in the letter. "As your investigation proceeds, I hope you will ask OSF exactly what they plan to do with St. Mary's Hospital."
Wrighton said again Tuesday if HSHS sells its assets to OSF HealthCare, it will close the facility and it will be bad for Streator."
Nothing has been said by either hospital directly, only what the city manager is saying so I would say we don't know anything at this point until it is officially confirmed by HSHS, OSF or any other hospital system then buys them. "OSF and HSHS officials have been close-mouthed about any discussions they may be having.
An HSHS spokesman said his company plans to keep the city "engaged" but that it can't make any public announcements for the time being."

If a lot of people already leave to go to another hospital, what would be the difference if they closed it?

I think at some point in the future St. Mary's will go the way of the dodo bird. this community is losing citizens and is getting smaller with each census.

MYWEBTIMES.COM Wrighton "thinks" a lot of things, not all exactly realistic. I still want to know which of the St. Fleeces Administrative team they are trying to protect. I agree. His thoughts might seem more realistic if there was any indication presented form the company wanting to invest in our community that supported his conjecture. I don't feel that his "thinking" that they shouldn't give out requirements for businesses wanting to invest here until there is a "deed in hand" for the property is very realistic to attracting business here either. Their apparently being upset that others don't want to share their plans until there is a "deed in hand" seems like another of their double standards to me. Too bad that they didn't seem to try working WITH the business wanting to invest in our community to try to keep the hospital open, instead of filing a ridiculous complaint with a federal agency AGAINST them. Maybe they should be working on solving the problems in our community and stop telling people to leave if they don't like the way that the City is run, to try to create more of a population base and make the business more viable, instead of trying to force businesses to do only what they want.

Gee, I would think that trying to find a buyer for the hospital that would keep it open is a good thing. If it closes and you have an emergency and have to either drive or be taken by ambulance to Ottawa or Pontiac you are adding 15-30 minutes before getting to a hospital.

If it closes and you have an emergency and have to either drive or be taken by ambulance to Ottawa or Pontiac you are adding 15-30 minutes before getting to a hospital. Except that that 15 minute drive will get you faster ER service than you get now getting to St Mary's right away and then sitting there for 3 hours.... I wouldn't be surprised if OSF closed most services if they did buy it but at this point it is still rumor and speculation , nothing official. that was my point from the latest article in the paper. What would another buyer do? Unknown. If HSHS doesn't sell it will they reduce/close services? Again unknown officially but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
