Ace is a great store. Locally owned, great knowledgeable and helpful staff, centrally located in town and usually competitively priced. I really can't imagine why they would up and close and not at least sell to someone that wanted to continue the business. Rumor doesn't make sense. I totally agree maskedman, but that didn't stop roman from using the rumor to try to make it seem as if it is acceptable for people to use our streets as a toilet and ridicule me for asking for better for our community. It seems that some people really want to make others believe that urinating in public or any of the other negative and illegal activities are acceptable and just part of the culture of Streator. I have met too many good people in Streator to believe that it is either acceptable or part of our heritage. I hope that our City leaders start providing better enforcement of our laws so that more people might feel comfortable that they wouldn't have to worry about these problems that do happen in the day time too (video and photos verify) when they support our local businesses. Kyle, you have to realize that Roman or others are not ridiculing you for asking for better for our community. We all are trying to show you that peeing outside and bar fights occur, not only in streator ,but in many other places. It is indeed illegal, but it has also become a tolerable behaviour in society today. Backlash comes from you presenting the problems as the major reason for things like the Majestic closing, but in reality, I dont think many people believe that is the case. Dont you get tired of pi$$ing into the wind?

Dont you get tired of pi$$ing into the wind? Is that right dog? Is it tolerable behavior to urinate and fight no matter where you are in Streator? Is that Mayor Lansford's vision for Streator, that it continue to be "tolerable behavior" for people to urinate and fight in front of families that might come to support businesses in downtown Streator? Perhaps you could show some research to back up your claim that urinating and bar fights are "tolerable behavior" in society today, if it is anything more than some ridiculous crap that you just made up?

A person can find several excellent dead horse beaters at ACE! (I suggest the Binford 2000 Dead Horse Beater, but that's just me.)

There's nothing like HEARSAY, to keep the forum alive. Does anyone REALLY believe a forum member speaking to an "elderly lady" has "inside" information about the future of ACE Hardware? That's why successful business people do not have to provide their name on the forum. Otherwise, they would have to address every rumor a poster "heard" about their business. I would bet Bill would have no problem selling his interest in ACE anytime he decides. He obviously has a great business model, and great supporters for his business in the community of Streator. g

The horse was given new life by our City leaders caving in to pave the way for the bar owners to keep over-serving people without worrying about the negative impacts that they create on other businesses in the area.

There's nothing like HEARSAY, to keep the forum alive. It also offers Kyle to stand on his soapbox. I would bet Bill would have no problem selling his interest in ACE anytime he decides. He obviously has a great business model, and great supporters for his business in the community of Streator. g It wasn't the hearsay that turned this into my soapbox, it was your buddy roman's idiotic attempt to ridicule me for asking that our City leaders have our laws enforced properly, that brought me into this. Isn't it a shame that Bill and other business owners have to try to survive with less customers because our City leaders can't come up with a solution to the "increasing" problems of our laws being broken when the bar owners do whatever they want? How long will our City leaders allow these problems to continue to hurt businesses resulting in things like our boarded up movie palace?

Rumor makes about as much sense as thinking the majestic closed because of street fights and people pissing in alleys

As many have said, when you need something and you want it now, Ace usually has it. And I will also add that along with my many, many visits to Ace, I have also gone to the Majestic many times since they were offering first run movies....and not once, not one time have I ever witnessed anyone relieving themselves in the street, alley or sidewalk. Back to Ace, the one major obstacle I see in anyone buying Ace is the cost of purchasing an up and running business. If you think about the building cost, the taxes, the cost of the inventory, the cost of experienced knowledgeable help, maintenance and being competitive....you are talking a staggering amount of money, work, time, headaches etc. I could really understand Bill wanting to get out of it himself, but finding someone to actually shell out the money to buy it and keep it going to the standards that Bill has set is a going to be a tough nut to crack. That in itself may be one good reason to keep the doors open and keep working...Right Bill? You know how it is MM to open a business and make a go of it...it ain't easy, is it? If it would close, you have the reason right here. Every year they make it harder to stay in business..............

No, I really don't believe Bill would have any difficulty selling his business to "credit worthy" individuals at today's interest rates. But of course you want to keep your Nanny Corporation's arms wrapped around you, and settle for the comfort of cashing your Nanny Corporation's checks, and letting your Nanny Corporation decide on when you must "punch in" and when to "punch out". I really do not think Bill needs the advice of a self -proclaimed "failed business owner." Interest rates are much lower than during Regan's years to credit worth buyers. g

Greek, quit being a flippin IDIOT.
This is getting dammed old.
Without seeing all the financials, none of us can speculate, HOWEVER, given the dollar amount involved ( and it is significant ), and the current cost of remaining in business, it is not a given that the business could be sold unless there was a significant discount.
Every post you make reinforces my belief that you haven't the foggiest notion what real business owners face today, unless said business was given to them free and clear.
BTW, I never offered any advice to Bill, nor would I. My post simply states that it would be a huge loss to Streator should the rumor be true.
You are the bloody idiot that tried to change the narrative.

Sniper, No wonder you will not venture out and make a commitment to start or begin a business. Obviously, you hate the system you profess to support, because you have no clue how to be successful on Main Street. Oh, and with interest rates being so low if a person has savings, equity, and a great credit report they could purchase a business, or perhaps form a group of investors to purchase a successful business. Well, that would take someone who has a clue about running a business, and having a good record of doing so. Wait that would leave you out of the picture. You better get to bed now and make sure you punch that "time clock" for Your Nanny Corporation. to make certain you're not penalized when you cash your next "paycheck" paid in fiat dollars. Going Galt anytime in your lifetime? g

Really? You wanna go there a$$hole?
Ok, lets play.
You supposedly have been in there, what is your ESTIMATE of his inventory value? As someone who has been there, done that, his inventory is way north of 1 Million, probably closer to 2 at cost.
Let's FORGET the value of the Building, and ignore the stellar customer good will value.
Let's just play a quick game with a 1 Million dollar business loan, at your "cheap" rates.
What's the monthly nut for just the business loan?
Hmmmm?
C'mon smartass, lay out your "business" plan for a reasonable adult to purchase said business.

I have my own business to take care of at present. I enjoy your term "monthly nut" for a business loan. Can you 'splain that term to me? If I was a bank loan officer, I would not be impressed. I'd probably just hand you the "green form" to list your assets and liabilities and to determine your "Net Worth". As a banker I would just enjoy asking you how you expected to pay off your loan. As someone who has never been denied a business loan, even when loan rates were in excess of 13% during the Reagan years and those were "balloon" notes it was possible. Oh, I could have gone to a "Corporate Nanny" but I wanted to Go Galt, and be a job creator. The real secret is to be flexible and responsible. I'll get back to you though. g
