Lets see here After Willy your the one that refuses to realize that After the Course was REDONE and the Clubhouse put in that SOCU had to spend their Own Money to Protect their Building from Flying Golf Balls they approached the City the City told them to SHOVE IT about the expense that the CITY should have paid called keeping the balls on their SIDE OF THE FENCE. As for Golfers not getting Drunk there 3 Shots of Hard Liquor in less than an Hour will get the Normal Man over .08 and put the City on the Hook.
I could care LESS about men Hitting a Ball with a Crooked Stick walking after it then when they find it HITTING IT AGAIN. Sorry I can think of better ways to spend 2 hours of my time like with my Family making homemade Bread or other things they like to do. Golf for me is an Excuse for Old White Men to dress up like a bunch of Idiots think they not look Foolish. I have an UNCLE that follows Golf he tried to force his 2 kids to follow in his Footsteps lets just say they burned their Clubs when they could. Willy I hate to tell you this but there are more people in this town that DO NOT GOLF than DO. We have better things to spend over 150 Grand of Taxpayer MONEY on before we might get some back from fees than a GOLF COURSE when we have 2 others that have more to offer than a 2700 yard Flat as a board Course that has cost the taxpayers of this city more money than the Pool Ever Did when it was Running.

What would you suggest the city do with the property that wouldn't compete with other private companies? What would the cost be to turn the course into something different? What would the cost be to build something different? What would be the return on the investment? How long would it take before the city started to turn a profit? Lots of restaurants have areas that are kid accessible and some don't have bar areas. That's why they rope the areas off.Gee, didn't you just make my point? They rope them off because it was not intended to be an activity for children to be around. By bringing alcohol and gambling to the golf course, I believe they are making it a place not intended for families. You raise a lot of interesting questions that could have many answers. Watch out though, others seem to get upset and vindictive about people discussing other options for that property. Some even claim that we should close down all the parks if that property can't continue to be a burden on taxpayers as a failing golf business in an over saturated declining market. Almost any type of professional sports facility serves alcohol while at the same time, tries to portray that particular sport as a family outing. I dont think that anyone is saying that if they would shut down the golf course, then the parks should be shut down too. What they are saying is if you are wanting to shut down a recreational facility like the golf course, because it loses money, couldnt the same argument be used to shut down recreational facilities such as parks too? From what I gather, Anderson's was established before Twin Creeks and Eastwood. I dont see the city trying to horn in on a private business, rather the other way around. I think with gambling machines the city will be able to operate the golf course in the black.

So by operation of slots the city is now going to compete with all the other places in town that have them. When is the city going to figure out that regardless of what they try throwing money at Anderson fields is never going to bring it into the black.

The businesses who have the legal gaming machines seem to be doing quite well...I've seen some of them completely change since they got the machines, and many others have followed suit...Most of them were running in the black beforehand, so the profits must be quite high... That being said, what will the city do with the surplus of $$$ once the golf course is benefiting from gaming?...Will it go towards other areas of the city that could use some help?...

With this city I highly freaking DOUBT it. Remember this is a City that REFUSED to let a CAT plant in because it would have competed with the Glass Plants. I keep hearing rumors from friends I have in the OTR Industry whose carriers are major Intermodal Customers that the BNSF is thinking about closing their Chicago area Yards but Willow Springs. They want a Place on the Main with Close access to the Other Class 1's we are the ONLY Spot that fits that needs. However the Carriers see how Streator is Run and tell the BNSF that sorry they will not open the NEEDED Terminals in the area to support a IM Yard. Why because of how Heavy Handed this City came down on Trucks in the 90's.

Quite a shame the city cannot do right for this city. The population sign for this town is 12,000 down from 15,000. Ottawa population sign is over 18,000 almost reaching 20,000 Something is very wrong with this.

As far as an Intermodal is concerned, the pollution in Streator is bad enough from the constant trains and truck traffic...Most people have no idea that train emissions aren't considered when air quality testing is done, even though they are diesel...Nor do they consider the particle pollution that is stirred up by every passing train...The city is already too complacent with the noise pollution as it stands, even though it's enough to drive residents elsewhere... The city is too small to support such a venture, unless it was built outside of town...Even then, it's not a case of "If you build it, they will come" because there are other options available to an entity as big as BNSF...

In talking with Mayors from other communities, many of their city owned properties don't make money. It adds to the quality of life to the community. It would have been nice to have had the city owned pool redone. It was going to take a lot of money to do so and at that time the city wasn't real good financially. It was going to need to be completely rebuilt.
What sets other towns apart is that most have park districts which adds to the revenue those properties bring in. It costs money to maintain every park in town and all are in the parks part of the budget. It doesn't matter if its a city park, ball park, golf course or pool. Someone can always say they don't use it themselves so why should their taxes support it?
Other communities like Peru, Ogelsby, La Salle and Ottawa have city pools. Do they have an unfair advantage over Grizzly Jacks? Bloomington and Normal have city owned golf courses. I don't know of any golf vourse that doesn't serve alcohol. Are they all unfriendly towards families and kids?

EXACTLY FOT. I don't understand Kyle's point or reasoning on this one. Complains it costs tax payer's money, but any effort to enhance revenues with other streams of revenue, whether serving beverages or installing machines is unfair and competing with private enterprise. I think Kyle just likes to complain, especially about the City. d**ned if you do and d**ned if you don't. The City and the leaders can do no right in Kyle's eyes. That is not true. I have clearly commended them for some of their good changes. I am not really that concerned about the golf course, but jumped on the subject because Willy spoke up about it. He tries to make people think that it was "obvious" to the City that my family was doing something illegal when we were not and suggests violence against me, among other attacks. They probably wouldn't have to deal with my being so critical of what they do if they were to address the problems that hurt business instead of attacking my family. They created this situation. I am only trying to make sure that I do use my rights that they try to deny. If they just started treating people better, they probably wouldn't create so many of these situations.

If the City were to assign a cost to maintain each of the parks to a line item, and a revenue per line item as is done for Anderson Fields, maybe you would better understand my comparison. At no time did I suggest closing the parks, I simply asked ironeagle if he would. For an intelligent person, you really do lack reading skills. I only respond when I have something new to offer to the conversation, that way I don't sound like a broken record. I understand your comparison. No matter how hard you try, you can't make the business profitable, so you try to justify it to taxpayers whose rates keep going up, by comparing the over saturated, declining market business to a park. Gee Willy, don't you think that asking if the parks should be closed because the golf course is a doomed business could be considered a suggestion that that is what should happen? I don't think I lack reading skills, I just comprehend what you are really trying to say. I think the reason that I might sound like a broken record could be because going directly to our City leaders with the problems only resulted in vindictive attacks against my family. Talking publicly about the problems over and over again seems to be the only way to get any of them addressed.

Lets see here all of a Sudden we where Outlawed from Parking in our OWN Driveways even BOBTAIL. Parking areas that we RENTED from Property Owners where Declared OFF LIMITS for USE. It was getting so bad that I was being forced to park on the RARE times that I did come home at a Former BOSSES Terminal 30 Miles away from town. Even a Fuel Stop with Parking aka Pit Stop West we where being Run out of there.

Routes 18,17, & 23 would not support the truck traffic from a intermodal yard to the interstates. If the residents and city seen what type of mayhem the container haulers create, the junk equipment they drive, and the people driving them they would run the other way. Seneca doesn't realize how lucky they are their proposed railport fizzled. Anybody wanting a small scale taste of what this would bring go up I-55 by Arsenal Rd. and observe or go watch the stream of them running from the Joliet area to WalMart's DC in Spring Valley. Then ask yourself is this what I want taking the highways over leading into and out of Streator ?
