Doesn't bother me. I don't do the things Kyle talks about. I hope he is doing a little "Happy Dance"! I hope he benefits from this.

They want to put cameras up,then put them up on every street in town to cover every block to watch the streets for criminal activity. Yes it is warranted to put cameras up. This town has way too much crime in it for the size it is. This is a very small town and the crime we are having now just about equals to the amount of crime Chicago has. Only difference is the police does not release it to the public via news media.

I don't see anything in the paper about it. Post the link so we can read about it. It was in the frontage under the picture. Said some council members had mentioned it didnt state whether they were doing anything yet.Just wanted a little community input on it...

I also remember cops riding in 2's instead of one per car. There were always 2 cops in a car back in the 70's. Now it is one officer per car now.

Putting cameras on every block in town combined with neighborhood watch groups, should be enough to help cut down on crime. Anything that happens would be recorded on the police cameras.

the city can put up a camera on each block in Streator but if no one monitors them then they will not be of any value. when the ones were installed in the park it was suppose to cut the crime and vandalism up there. the band shell has been vandalized and the new attractions for the kids have been tagged without any arrests. the cameras are only as good as the monitoring that is done.

Not doing there jobs is the problem. If the police do their jobs then they are the solution. However ,if they refuse to do their jobs, then they are the problem.
The way I look at it is if the police won't do their job to arrest the offender, turn a blind eye to it ,then they are on the take. Meaning they have their hand in the money jar. Pay to play crap, just like the politicians do. Oh what would they do if that guy on youtube pops up and videos them doing wrong? His screen name is vigilante justice. It is the guy out on the east coast that goes around recording city officials across the board breaking laws and posting them on youtube for people to watch.

Rocket, if you think you could be a better Streator cop, go for it. You are always cutting down the cops.

A very small town would have a lot less than that. And honestly, the crime is pretty reasonable for the size and the fact that a good portion of our community is poor.

I posted about it a couple of days ago. I think it is a great idea. Yes dave, happy dance indeed and I do believe it will help our downtown be a better place. Hey greek, don't you think this might be sign that I may have convinced someone of something? It may have been taking a lot of years and a lot of talking, but it does seem that they are finally starting to take some action. It almost makes me think that anything could be possible for Streator! www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/preliminary-streator-budget-calls-for-liquor-license-fee-increase/article_e992f997-d101-5af4-afbe-c224920711f0.html A $35,000 pilot project was proposed for surveillance cameras downtown that are less expensive and have a lower profile compared to the cameras in city park.
