Debbie Barnes Hallam
The Richards Street Baptist Church of Streator,IL is starting a warming center at 2126 N Bloomington St. (next to Ford Dealership). They will open at 9pm anytime the temperature is due to drop below Zero. They will serve clients hot chocolate, coffee and a bagged lunch. Pastor Merkerson is starting out with the very basics. So if anyone wants to donate sleeping bags, cots, pillows and pillow cases, just let me know and I will gladly pick them up and deliver them. I am going out tomorrow and buying a couple of sleeping bags at Walmart.

Bumping to keep at the top, not that someone who needs this is likely to see it, but possibly someone knows of someone this may benifit.

I wonder what the homeless population is in Streator. I think when they had the homeless shelter here in town they averaged 12 a night oldtimer. last summer there wasn't many sleeping at the river that I seen.

Its my understanding that the shelter closed because they were down to 0 people using it.

just because the shelter doesn't have patrons doesn't mean there isn't homeless people in Streator. during the summer months there are people sleeping in city park and down near the river. you are right towards the end there wasn't many utilizing the homeless shelter and volunteers had fallen to a low Helen.
