Kyle, Are you still the "Manager/Projectionist" at that beautiful movie theater in Elizabethtown, Kentucky? What's showing tonight. Are the receipts increasing since you became "manager", or are the revenues sliding? g Sorry greek, I'm not a manager or projectionist of any theatre. My title is Director of Theatre Operations and I work at several locations. I've seen exit signs for Elizabethtown on I-24, but can't say as I've ever been there, much less in their theatre.

Google reviews 2.2 34 reviews Robert Milam Robert Milam 2 weeks ago This place has seriously gone down hill. I get that we live in a smaller rural community, but when half your staff are your relatives and simply don't give a crap cuz they know you won't fire them. it really reflects on your business. The seats are uncomfortable. the bathrooms are always filthy, the concessions are over prices and the concession area is dirty. And most recently I have had my movie interrupted not once but twice because of people "triple parking" in the parking lot and blocking people in, mainly because there are no lines painted in the parking lot. As much as you charge for popcorn, you would think you could afford a can of paint. When I mentioned that the parking lot should be painted, the VERY rude woman at the ticket booth told me "COMMON SENSE SIR< COMMON SENSE" Is this how you should treat someone after dropping 21 dollars on a movie ticket, a coke and some cold popcorn? ^^^ I googled the ky movie "Palace" in Elizabethtown. Out of 34 reviews, they have a 2.2 rating. Maybe there's excesive bar violence and public urination going on there, too. Why don't you try posting more reviews of theatres that I've never even been to? Do you think that will show people that I am just some terrible person who never deserved any Constitutional Rights or support from our City? Will reviews of other people's theatres make the Majestic any less of a boarded up failure (just months after receiving $130,000.00 in public donations to save it)?

Here's my take on the theater that Kyle calls a Palace. When I was growing up, only the Plumb and Granada were open and when comparing the theaters to the present Majestic (when open), there isn't much to compare. The Plumb was the better of all three. A person could go to the Granada for .15 cents and the Plumb for a quarter. Popcorn was cheap, so mom and dad could send the kids to the movies. We barely had a TV to watch (all snowy), not tape players or DVD players so movie theaters were the only game in town.
Movie theaters aren't where to put your money. Too much competition with everything you can access and take home. You can make your own popcorn and drink pop much cheaper than trying to pay for it at a theater, and you can be much more comfortable. You can put it on pause and miss nothing. It's tough for a family to go to the theater and be able to afford the necessities in raising a family.
The majestic will in all probability stay closed and whether I like it or not, it will stay shuttered. It isn't a palace and it wasn't that comfortable. Movies didn't get here that were already showing in Peru and Ottawa. Whoever owned it wasn't going to make it and that isn't slamming Kyle. Numbers dictate success or failure. You can't manipulate numbers to make it look successful and it wasn't possible for the most recent manager to pay the bills and make money to take home.
I used to go to the Will Rogers in Charleston while attending college. The same situation exists down there. Big business controls the movie industry. The Majestic and the Will Rogers are dead ducks in the water.

The Majestic and the Will Rogers are dead ducks in the water. I'll give you that there is a lot of competition now, but there are also a lot of communities our size that do support theatres that are not near as good a movie going experience as the Majestic. You are right also that it is the numbers that dictate success or failure. If the numbers of people who are willing to bring their families around the violence outside the theatre at night are too low, then it doesn't matter how nice the palace is, it will be a failure. That is why I asked and asked our City leaders to clean it up, but they seem to think that thumping people in the street is acceptable and instead attacked my family as being illegal when we weren't, among their other vindictive actions.

How much violence have you witnessed or recorded since your often cited Times article? Just wondering?

How much violence have you witnessed or recorded since your often cited Times article? Just wondering? Kyle better check his cameras because I was all liqoured up fighting tourists and taking dumps in the middle of the street last night. That's at least one fight and I can't believe he didn't mention it. Post it on YouTube Kyle I dare you! If you try to expose me I will shut you down and get your illegalbuttdeported! Do it Kyle. Do it. Everyone else on this town has learned to fall in line and never cross the all powerful Mayor Lansford! It's about time you begin to follow me too. Ahaha!

Why must you continue to use violence as the cause for the Majestic closing? Folks leaving the theater at the time that all the so called violence and urinating were adults, not children as you claim. I've lived here a long time, attended the theater more than you can count over the years. Not one time did I ever see any person urinating in the alley. For you to make the claim that it happened during daylight hours is hard to accept.
I'm not claiming that some people may have gotten into fights outside that tavern, or that some folks may have used the alley as a toilet. I'm not saying that any of that is good, but it certainly didn't cause the Majestic to close. You may claim that but not many folks will believe you.
The net income of the theater and the need for upgrades caused the closing. And I'll go a step further. Had the theater stayed open long enough to use the new projectors, the theater still was going to close because the numbers weren't there to keep it open. Nobody in there right mind is going to work that many hours and not take money home to pay the bills. I don't believe the numbers were ever there to pay the utility costs alone. I sat in the theater too many times, just me and wife and a couple more people. And that happened a lot. No business can stay open, no matter how hard you try, no matter how nice the atmosphere is, that's just my opinion.
It's truly a shame that you had a tough time in the business, but I'm not certain you really did your homework. You just have the theater in your blood and maybe the timing just wasn't right. But, please stop blaming this city for the closure.

Heard some theaters are putting beds in now.....Can't see where that will be a problem. I think those of us who used to frequent the old movie theaters nowadays stay home and watch it on our home theater systems..

I read a news report last week where theater attendance was down 14% nationwide last year, and for a family of four, the average cost to attend is $80.00. That explains a lot doesn't it. g

Actually, several years ago I offered the perfect scenario for saving the place. Back when I was living in Florida, we had a beautiful little theater situated much like the Majestic. On the balcony, they had a nice food and bar and you had to be 21 to go up there. To make it even more entertaining, they could have built a balcony out the side for the fights.......... Alas, nobody thought it would work, after all, you get to see the fight for free on the street.

That's why I voted in my poll to give only 70 tourist beatings per week. If I have to do them all I will need to raise taxes even more next year to hire extra help. I may be an all-powerful, nut-crushing mayor, but I'm not Superman.
