So, people will be upset that the Majestic Theatre is closed.
It closed because there wasn't enough money generated to keep it open.
There are about 20,000 people who live in the 61354 zip code. That is more than enough people to support a twin cinema movie theatre.
The real question is... why didn't people go? It was not expensive. People go see movies... why drive out of town to see a movie instead of supporting the "local" theatre, which by the way is a GREAT place to see a movie!
I can understand if you're upset that the theatre closed and you were patronizing it. BUT, if you were driving out of town to go see movies then you have no reason to be upset that this "jewel" is now boarded up once again. So, the next time some one says there is nothing to do in Streator... we lost SOMETHING for people to do because NOBODY supported it. Why would someone else want to buy it and keep it open? Why would another entertainment type of business want to locate in Streator when the people wouldn't support a movie theatre?
It's sad. The community as a whole should be disappointed in itself today!

It's about time someone states this. My wife and our thirteen year old daughter was just there this past Saturday. Have watched several movies there since I moved to Streator eight teen years ago. Mostly with my wife and all three kids. We even watched a movie on Christmas one year as a family. Love movie theatre popcorn. But without the local supporting what is here in town, with out that money coming into a business, the doors would have to close. It's ashame, too. My youngest daughter has been there at least six times since the end of school year. My son was there at least twice over the summer.

Seems ironic that this place closed up after whoever turned Scc in for showing free movies in the park.

Jc, if it would've drawn crowds for every show, katie would've had the money to buy out her partner. Or, he wouldn't want to sell, if he was making money. Each time I was there, there were hardly any other people in the theater.

This seems to be the ultimate ice bucket challenge to streator from Tim Burke. And he is claiming the digital projectors too???
Foul I say!
Hopefully we can hear directly from Tim himself to see what he has to say about all this.

Majestic did not close for Streator not going. Many issue seem to be in background. Something is in the "Background". To just up and board the place up rather than to hold to the end of September. But the public may or may not find out what the entire situation is. I know that if you don't have the supporters(or the customers) to pay for a service, a business can not pay bills, employees, ect. Which I am sure that has a part of why the theatre closed. I think it is sad that the theatre is closed.

Cause all new release 1st runs are now available online and most tv's nowadays have internet built in them with youtube, netflix and a few other video hosting sites to watch them at home.
Movie theaters are going obsolete with this new way of watching movies. Give it time and there won't be anymore tv cable service or satellite service . Everything will be on the internet.

Did Katy board up the place, or did Tim Burke ( In an apparently illegal act ) sneak in under the cover of darkness like a common criminal and board the place up? It sure would appear as if she was generating enough revenue to keep the doors open, if not get rich from it.

Yes oldtimer, I don't know why more people didn't come out to support the Majestic. After all, the whole family could be entertained by a brutal street fight while attending too.
I asked Katie, "After seeing how he did us, did you really not have a lease before asking the public to donate huge amounts of money?"
She responded, "I tried to get the building under contract before Endres made his donation but he moved to fast once he made the decision to donate."
So now it is the donor's fault that she didn't get a lease two years ago before she started asking for hand outs? Wow, what a slap in the face to him. I doubt he ever donates anything here again.
This digital conversion was mandated by the film studio,s including 20th Century Fox, so they could save about a half million dollars each time they release a movie is what I have been told. The huge expense of the conversion was pushed on theatre owners who had to pass the expense on to movie-goers.
I haven't heard back from Fox, where Tim works yet. I want to know why, now that they are enjoying their savings on the backs of the movie-goers, they can't pay their employees enough so that they don't have to screw over small community movie-goers to try to get ahead in life. I hope that more people try to contact them at 310-369-4000 to ask for answers.

With out having enough money, a business will not strive. That is the biggest reason why this theatre closed. But this person is trying to blame that person for the closing. It's not business smart to keep a place open when there is not enough revenue coming in. Plain and simple.

If that place was making money they would have never boarded it up! I'm sure the owner got tired of dumping money into it. That's why he came into town. He would have never come here other than it's not making money. And, don't get me wrong. I'm in no way speaking ill of the manager who was running the place when it was boarded up. It's not her fault that the city didn't support it! This would not have happened if Streator would have just supported it. And people will complain that there is nothing to do in Streator.... I don't ever want to hear that line again.
