When was that, before the civil rights movement? I think that any more when large investments and the lack of civil rights are concerned, it is considered much more than just sour grapes. If you read the link I provided at the top of this page, it talks about how these rights are diminished. People who choose to move there are made aware of that, and sign a contract accepting that fact. "The structure of the Special Planning Authority is necessarily disenfranchising as the governing body is selected on behalf of the local people by LCL. The citizens also cannot participate in government by standing for elections. The loss of political rights is indicative of a thinning down of citizenship to the extent that the individuals are moving away from the empowered role of citizens and toward the rather archaic role of subjects. This relationship is explicitly described in the contract between Lavasa and its residents." I've read comments that say they were only given the contracts that informed them of their loss of rights after they were already committed to the investment. Other than the Lavasa employees and their families, how many of these happy, no rights holding subjects do you imagine there to be?

To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.

But yet, the one business owner claims that he's unhappy because HIS contract ran out and they wouldn't LET him sign a new one. This city sounds a little like a building or neighborhood association, or gated community.

All streatorites should line the sidewalk at the city managers first meeting and chat "fresh fish" as he walks in. It will be just like in Shawshank Redemption! That way he will know how pro-fish this community really is regardless of the mayors obvious anti-fish stance.

The problems are not a joke Kyle, but your CONSTANT whining about it is what he is poking fun at. All you do is complain about the same 5 or 6 things constantly. It seems you are now taking aim at new Council Members and the new City Manager before he is even here........take 2 or 3 steps back and look at yourself and your campaign Kyle. Do you really think fights, or drinking, or public urination even cracks the top 10 of problems in Streator? Do you really think your campaign is rallying residents to your cause? You may have some valid points Kyle, but your rhetoric has completely alienated most people that would ever listen to you. If our City leaders at least tried to address the problems, instead of attacking me for talking about them, maybe you wouldn't have to keep hearing about it. Yes, I do think that these problems are in the top ten, because it does keep people away and hurts business here. No, not rallying to my cause, but yes, I do think that many residents will try to become informed and vote accordingly next year. Don't you ever wonder why everyone is against you, you had problems in flagstaff, problems with the majestic, problems with the City, isn't there a common denominator here? Maybe it is you! Now you are starting with a new City Manager that isn't even here yet. According to you he is going to come in and illegally close down business. We can only hope he does and evicts you from this town.

After reading your link Dog, I have to wonder. Who in their right mind would want anything to do with living or owning a business there? Things are really screwed up over in India. The blog was wrote by one of our newest members on here. It is insightful. He should be glad to get the heck out if there.

If I read everything correctly, lavasa can do anything it pleases and there is nothing anyone can do. I notice also that this is your blog so it is your opinion being expressed. Why would anyone want to live there? Did you read the contract before signing? If not, why would you sign anything without knowing what you're investing in? Doesn't sound very smart. Complete authority to the owner of the community and the citizens/subjects have to do what they are told. Sounds like life hundreds of years ago when kings and queens ruled.

The blog is an amalgamation of many individual's experience, as one could make out. SPA rules of is/was never shared publicly and never before signing an agreement and making an investment, hence people are stuck. Many have asked for specific SPA rules and haven't heard anyone getting the full copy even now. You are right about medieval period and Scot being the City Manager explains his orientation. If we don't act now and take it up with the Council, it will be too late. With such a baggage and a fat salary he is having the best time

This city sounds a little like a building or neighborhood association, or gated community. Yes, that appears to be the case, here is one comment: FYI I am investor in lavasa, when we bought propery, we are not shown these contracts, only when you have paid in full and have to take possession you get to know first hand, indian law should have rules for protecting the basic rights of all individuals, there should be no room for ambiquity, and contracts which criple the rights of investors should be considered as void, Indian law must have provisions safequarding basis rights of the investors, this is the sole reason why india is unable to attract fdi investments in various sectors, India land, labor, etc are among the lowest in asian, nri's feell more secure investing elsewhereIt is from an anonymous poster just like you, however I have no history of this person posting lies like you, so I put more trust in what they say. The business owner wanting to extend the lease comes from Mr. Wrighton's letter to the Police labeling the person a criminal without allowing him due process. I really think it is more like FOT describes it, a medieval monarchy than a neighborhood association, that our new City Manager was hired as a governance expert to run, but is now running away from. It is unfortunate for the people of Streator that he brings with him the negativity of depriving people of their civil rights and creating unfriendly business relationships.

Drunken street brawls, people urinating in the streets, the reputation keeping people away, the lack of business, the overly restrictive ordinances, didn't they all exist before I came to Streator? Maybe they will evict me from town. They can do whatever they want regardless of our laws, they have shown that. Less business and population will be right in line with what it seems they have been trying to achieve.

I don't think people in India will be eating as much fish now. From what I hear, the improper treatment of sewage from the new city that Mr. Wrighton built, has been contaminating the water supply there. What a shame. Is the Mayor against fish too? I already knew that he was against business, civil rights, and following our laws, now fish too? As you know, he gave a requirement to stop a business that does not even follow our laws. He supported publicly declaring business owners illegal without even providing due process. He feels that he has the right to decide what topics his subjects can discuss in City Park. Maybe Lavasa has a leadership position for him.
