I believe the city jacked up the permit fee and wasn't beneficial to the ice cream guys. They don't make enough profits here ,and paying more to get a permit would make them lose money.

Not enough profit? He drove down from the suburbs. Had to be making some money to go that daily.

I think it was $100.00 when he 1st started, then the city raised it another $100.00 making $200.00 for the permit .

Think about this Rocket, how many places do we have in Streator that sell ice cream? All those folks own buildings and pay taxes. Why shouldn't there be a fee paid for those that don't live here and pay no taxes? I don't know what the cost for that license is, but if it is $200 like you say, I would think that is more than fair. Shouldn't the city try to protect those people that have a vested interest in Streator?

Not to mention the raise from 100 to 200 would hardly be considered a burden, given it would take over a hundred to fill the tank on the truck....... I would bet like most things, the reality of the profit didn't meet expectations.

Willy is right too in that we have ice cream stores on the North, East and South sides serving the community. That's pretty good coverage compared to lots of towns. I think Ottawa has 2 and Pontiac only 1 ice cream shops. Too bad Scoops is closed so far this season. It really is a beautiful store and central location next to the park. Sorry to hear this. Didn't realize they weren't open, didn't frequent the place as I found them quite expensive in comparison to the other locations in town.

Growing up it was cool waiting for the ice cream cart in the summer..With some of the ice cream bars and such you would find free written on the stick and use it the next day..Or down the block...

I forgot about the ice cream place south of Streator. I think they serve coke with the marshmallows that I like. And the cones are a very good portion.
